IU Health Bloomington has an outstanding opportunity available for a Clinical Nurse- Specialty Coordinator join our team at our Bloomington Hospital location. This is a full-time role that works on our day shift, Monday-Friday.

This highly motivated Specialty Coordinator will utilize their clinical expertise in orthopedic and neurology care to join the 3W Acuity Adaptable Leadership team. This position is critical to promoting professional staff development and requires strong knowledge of evidence-based practices, clinical guidelines, and regulatory requirements related to adult care. The 3W Acuity Adaptable unit is comprised of 30 beds. The Specialty Coordinator role is multifaceted and includes functioning as a Learning Facilitator, Change Agent, Mentor, Leader, Champion for Inquiry, Advocate for the NPD Specialty, and Partner for Practice Transitions. This position’s primary responsibility will be the professional development of our 3W team from novice to expert team members.

The Specialty Coordinator Nursing Professional Development utilizes NPD practice judgment and expertise to improve and influence professional role competence and growth of learners in a variety of settings with a desired outcome to support the IU Health Way. Six primary responsibilities of this role include onboarding/orientation, competency management, education, role development, collaborative partnerships, and inquiry. This role often functions in these responsibilities at a unit or facility level partnering with leaders and other stakeholders to achieve strategic goals and initiatives. 

Orientation & Onboarding - The Specialty Coordinator role plays a vital role in decreasing turnover, supporting orientees, and developing coaches as informal leaders.
Education - The NPD is trained to apply evidence-based concepts such as adult learning methods and brain-based learning techniques to educate new and experienced staff members.
Role Development - The Specialty Coordinator serves as a mentor by offering their expertise and resources to support team members' professional development. The NPD also leads by example by aligning their work with the vision and values of the organization.
Competency Management - The Specialty Coordinator creates sustainable programs by only requiring staff to complete meaningful and valuable competencies.
Inquiry - The Specialty Coordinator guides staff through the process of completing EBP projects, submitting abstracts, presenting at conferences, and publishing manuscripts. 
Collaborative Relationships - The Specialty Coordinator builds and maintains mutually beneficial relationships with various disciplines that share common goals.

PREFERRED:

  • Master of Science in Nursing
  • Nursing Specialty Certification

 

  • Bachelors Degree of Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department/specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Two years experience preferred.
  • Must have the ability and willingness to travel as needed to meet the system educational needs.
  • Must have the ability to display knowledge and utilization of principles of adult learning.
