New Graduates
New registered nurse (RN) graduates benefit from a comprehensive, personalized support system. All RNs in their first nursing role are invited to participate in a Nurse Residency Program alongside nursing orientation. The program provides socialization and support, enhances clinical judgment, and promotes professional development.
The Acuity Adaptable/Progressive Care to Specialty service pathway has been crafted to help a finite number of new graduates be developed and prepared to transition into a Specialty unit of their choice.
This pathway begins with your orientation to IU Health and the respective Acuity Adaptable Unit. Between 6-9-months you will then begin to float into the Specialty department paired with a preceptor to gain exposure & educational opportunities.
At the 12-month mark all Pathways hires are evaluated and tagged by seniority. Those with the highest seniority will be tagged as a priority candidate and be placed into the next full-time position for the selected Pathway unit.
During the Pathway you will develop and master the following skills:
- Medication administration
- Physical assessments
- Phlebotomy
- Titratable drips
- Critical thinking/prioritization skills
- Interdisciplinary collaboration
- Rhythm interpretation
- Management of emergency situations
- Utilization of the Nursing process
- Solid bedside techniques
- Communication
Qualifications
- Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
- Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
- Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
