POSITION SUMMARY
We are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Technician to join the team here at The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, Edinburgh.
The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa is one of Scotland's leading 5 star hotels. As the largest 5 star hotel, we also have the biggest banqueting and meeting facilities of any hotel in Edinburgh with a capacity of up to 500 as well as our award winning ONE SPA and our One Square Restaurant and bar.
Role:
The engineering technician is responsible for the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance activities as requested throughout the hotel and spa facilities, planned preventative maintenance schedules, and the undertaking of designated health & safety duties across the hotel and spa.
Our ideal candidate doesn’t have to be fully rounded or specialist in all thing’s buildings, but they are expected to have the necessary knowledge and skills to be agile and effective in their approach to work, and to of course be comfortable working in a 5* environment either alone or with other engineering colleagues.
You must be keen learn, develop, and grow, but also share your experiences for the benefit of the engineering team and assist in all other general engineering tasks, as directed by management.
The role operates on a rota at the moment 5 days from 7, this is currently under review. This role is primarily day shift but there will be occasional nightshift working as dictated by the tasks in hand, we provide 24/7 cover.
General requirements
React to requests to assess and repair where possible, faults with all aspects of the buildings including HVAC, lighting & small power issues, plumbing problems, pool and other plant, and the thermal suite.
Communicate, effectively across all aspects of the business and be IT literate to ensure accurate record keeping is maintained via desktop and device apps for work allocations, prioritisations, and reporting.
Undertake and record cyclical planned preventative maintenance and health & safety activities, working from schedules across the business.
Carry out cyclical health & safety testing to assist with the maintenance of adequate control of risk matters such as legionella, asbestos, and other fire life safety equipment.
Take ownership of designated role as part of the hotel emergency evacuation procedures.
Use systems and technology as required to record, manage, and prioritise workload.
Requirements:
We are looking for someone who is energetic and self-motivated and who is ready to take the next step on your career path. Ideally you will have at least 2 years’ experience within a similar environment or be ready to be challenged by moving into the 5* workplace.
Our expectations of you will be that you are able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team and have a strong desire to improve on your skills and knowledge as well as:
Good oral and written communication skills
Previous experience of working in a maintenance environment for 2-3 years minimum in a hospitality environment
Required to complete all required relevant documentation including inspection results, surveys, work order and reporting systems, demonstrate a working knowledge of H&S procedures e.g., COSHH, Risk Assessment and safe systems of work.
Awareness of energy management and the requirement to run systems efficiently and cost effectively.
Must have a working understanding of health & safety.
Pool Plant experience. Pool plant operator qualification is preferable.
Understanding and awareness of HVAC systems.
Knowledge and understanding of Fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
Good all-round knowledge of electrical systems is preferable.
BMS experience, particularly the front end, and able to snag issues whilst having the awareness and understanding to carry out alterations to improve the environment whilst not affecting guests and other user comfort.
Knowledge of system drawings, O&M manuals, and other technical documents relevant to the role.
Requires understanding and knowledge to demonstrate safe working practices using various hand or electrical tools, and test and inspection equipment.
