The Capital University Dispatchers have the responsibility to provide twenty-four hour daily emergency telephone service to the campus community and maintain twenty-four hour daily radio dispatch service to patrol officers. Dispatchers shall be under the command of the Chief of Police, with immediate supervision provided by the Shift Sergeant.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains logs (such as patrol logs, petty cash logs, parking logs, etc.) and produces related correspondence.
- Manages student employees.
- Manages dispatch and office operations.
- Answers questions from the campus community and the general public covering a wide range of university and Public Safety related matters.
- Manages campus police radios, and monitors campus facilities, Columbus and Bexley radios when possible.
- Contacts Bexley PD and Columbus Fire Department / Medical Personnel when needed.
- Assists in parking services.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required.
- Public Safety Telecommunicator 1, one to two years of related experience or training in an office environment and experience/training in radio communication; public safety experience/training in higher education or similar field preferred.
- Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain high level of confidentiality.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to work without supervision.
- Excellent facility in using Microsoft Suite.
- Excellent professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule; days, evenings, midnight shifts, weekends and holidays.
Dispatchers must pass FBI and BCI&I fingerprint background checks.
