This position supports the need for injection molding and tooling technical support of Core Cockpit and Trim Engineering.  The Tooling Specialist will support injection molding feasibility, tooling and MoldFlow development of individual interior programs.  This position will lead the implementation of robust part feasibility, tool design, and signoff of MoldFlow prior to tool kickoff.  Additional needs for this position include supporting the teaching of tooling and processing classes, mentoring global engineering teams and suppliers to increase acumen, technical methodologies and design process as well as manufacturing readiness process controls for interior tooling and plastic part processing.  This position will also provide expertise for design rule and lessons learned implementation, support tool trials at suppliers and robust DOE methodology to optimize the parts.  These duties include alignment with the Ford teams of Applications, Global Vendor Tooling, STA, Design Quality and suppliers.  This position develops and supports the global organization's delivery of quality Cockpit and Trim commodities to our customers.

In this position...

  • Advance skill set of injection molding tooling feasibility, methods, construction, and plastics processing.
  • Manage the Ford Ok to Tool Process for interior component injection molds.
  • Ensure delivery of Ford interior injection molds on time with high quality.

What you'll do...
 

  • Assist Ford PD Engineers and suppliers with part feasibility, tool design and MoldFlow for interior components to address failure modes related but not limited to tool robustness, part warp, surface defects, gloss changes, etc.
  • Support Studio part design decisions that are impacted by tooling and molding practices.
  • Support MoldFlow development of interior components.
  • Support new product launches by attending injection mold trials.
  • Manage correlations of real molding processes to MoldFlow.
  • Support molding trials at suppliers for delivery of appearance approval sign offs with Design Quality.
  • Support Ford and suppliers on site at molding trials to trouble shoot processing or tooling issues that interrupt part delivery or quality.
  • Assist internal Ford teams with tool timing discussions.
  • Work with Core Engineering and Technical Specialist teams to develop lessons learned and design rules.
  • Drive lessons learned and tooling standards into our part and tool designs by cascading them to internal and external teams.
  • Deliver new tooling technologies related to Ford objectives of quality, cost and weight reductions, and sustainability.
  • Develop relationships with Ford internal groups related to tooling and materials to take advantage of cross functional efficiencies and benefits that deliver the One Ford objectives.
  • Support development of tool shops within our supply base.
  • Support development of molding suppliers within our supply base.
  • Participate in teaching Ford team members our classes on Tooling and Processing.
  • Support reviews and improvements to Ford Tooling Standards.
  • Support global Ford teams with technical direction to resolve tooling and molding issues.
     

You'll have...

  • High school diploma or higher education.
  • 5 years of injection mold tool build or design experience.
  • 5 years injection mold processing experience.

  • Effective communication skills of technical tooling and molding theory.
  • Ability to lead a multi-faceted team and guide them to solid decisions to deliver quality, robust tooling, and molded products for Ford.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

This position is a salary grade 8.
