Job Descrption
In this position…
The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) department is responsible for ensuring that the subsystems of an automated or highly automated vehicle work together seamlessly to produce a safe, compliant, high performing vehicle that meets the needs of our customers.
We are seeking an experienced engineer to take a prominent role in our ADAS Systems Engineering Team. This team is responsible for writing, managing, and validating the all-new requirements and performance specifications for the Self-Driving System (SDS) and facilitating the overall engineering signoff of the SAE Level 2 and 3 Bluecruise Features. You will have the opportunity to provide mentorship to other engineers on our team and at Latitude while managing an important, complex, multi-year project. You will be exposed to rapidly growing fields including automated vehicle technology, Functional Safety (ISO26262), Safety of the Intended Function (SOTIF) (ISO21448) and cybersecurity.
What you'll do…
- Write the functional requirements specification for the Self-Driving System (SDS) of Ford’s ADAS Features. Functional requirements are derived from sources such as federal, state, and local regulations, safety expectations, industry best practices, customer use cases, ADAS operational needs, User Experience (UX) flows, and failure mode avoidance (FMA) analyses.
- Write and execute the Design Verification Plan (DVP) and acceptance criteria used for Ford’s engineering sign off of the SDS, including defining where to leverage testing from subsystem, feature and Latitude DVPs and balancing the appropriate use of simulation, component, track, and real-world testing.
- Use performance metrics to monitor SDS performance in simulation, track testing, and real-world driving.
- Craft and implement framework for Ford engineering signoff of the ADAS, with special focus on the Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R), Failure Mode Analysis (FMA), and Functional Safety (FuSa) Verification and Validation (V&V) requirements for the Self-Driving System (SDS).
- Assist engineers at Ford and Latitude in implementing technical methods to measure and improve simulation fidelity and credibility
- Authorship, release, and reporting of requirements, test methods, and program deliverables in JAMA and Ford Engineering Design Environment (FEDE).
- Provide status reporting to the ADAS and program leadership, in line with GPDS deliverables.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to other engineers in the group
You'll have…
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, and/or related technical disciplines
- 1+ years of experience in authoring new requirements, test method development, crafting new DV strategies, and/or robustness engineering of a complex system
- 1+ years of experience managing and/or executing a test plan, DV plan (DVP&R), and/or compliance demonstration plan (CDP&R) and associated documentation
- 1+ years of experience in safety, Driver Assistance Technology (DAT/ADAS) design/testing, chassis electronics hardware design/testing, systems engineering, system integration, electrical system design/architecture, calibration, performance attributes, vehicle dynamics and/or a related area
Even better, you may have…
- Advanced Engineering degree in a related field.
- Understanding of or interest in learning about Functional Safety (ISO26262) and/or Safety of the Intended Function (ISO21448)
- Understanding of or interest in learning about model-based systems engineering: SysML/MagicDraw
- Understanding of Global Product Development System (GPDS) and Global Technology Development System (GTDS) engineering milestones and experience delivering a system, product, feature, or component through the vehicle program design process
- Experiencing managing a complex feature or system that has a variety of requirement sources and requirement priorities (i.e. regulatory, trustmark, functional requirements, performance attributes, Public Domain Guideline (PDG) targets)
- Prior experience with Ford vehicle development processes and tools, for example Global Product Development System (GPDS), Global Technology Development System (GTDS), JAMA, Ford Engineering Design Environment (FEDE), Vehicle Software Electrical Management (VSEM), supplier management, Feature Delivery process for software-enabled features
- Experience with or understanding of multiple design verification methods, including virtual validation methods (i.e. CAE, Hardware in the Loop (HIL), Model in the Loop (MIL), Software in the Loop (SIL)) and physical validation methods (component, subsystem, and vehicle level testing, track testing, real-world driving, end of line tests)
- Knowledge of automotive CAN network communications, ethernet communications and/or vehicle diagnostics
- Computational, data analysis skills
- Demonstrated ability to get things done in a rapidly changing environment, work collaboratively with others and to influence and navigate decision making
