This Technical Expert role within Vehicle Structures, Vehicle Hardware Engineering, Exterior & Structural Systems, is an individual contributor leadership role responsible for the structural systems durability. The main purpose of this role is to ensure robust upfront virtual sign-off on our body structures, frame, and battery tray as well as signing off the closure of durability issues. In this role, you will support and mentor the organization by facilitating structured problem-solving methods for resolution of technical issues for both in-flight development and ongoing production, driving robust issue closure in a timely manner.
In this position...
- Engage in Structures Architecture design process to ensure lessons learned are driven into advanced vehicle design.
- Work with program VEV / Durability / PD organizations to select minimum feature configurations for vehicle & system durability DV testing.
- Interface with CAE engineers & commodity Technical Specialists to improve 1st pass DV through virtual design methods improvement.
What you'll do...
- Responsible for body structures, frame and battery tray virtual signoff prior to kicking off physical builds.
- Responsible for signing off closure of durability issues for body structures, frame and battery tray.
- Support field warranty analysis to lead feedback into durability DV prevent reoccurrence.
- Engage with Durability CAE to drive updates to fatigue relevant material libraries.
- Share & present work to cross-functional teams and executive leadership.
You'll have...
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in structural components.
- Understanding of CAE correlation to physical testing.
- Knowledge of the history of durability issues.
- Knowledge of statistical validation tools – usage of Weibul plots.
- Working knowledge of structural system verification, quality, manufacturing, and assembly methods.
- Knowledge of welding and joining methods.
- Deep knowledge of the following: body sheet metal, HSLA steels, cast materials, mix metal architecture, metal joining.
- Demonstrated capability and willingness to teach/coach/mentor and document technical knowledge.
- Demonstrated high level of communication skills and teamwork.
- Recognized as a “go-to” person in functional area of expertise.
- Ability to lead a team in the delivery of technical objectives.

- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Black Belt Six-Sigma Certification
- 15+ years of experience in structural systems
- Experience in Supplier Technical Assistance
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis & failure mode avoidance.
- Experience correlating CAE to physical testing.
- Expert knowledge in utilizing 8D, 3x5 why and other tools to facilitate clear and concise communication of complex technical issues.
