Staff Technical Program Manager at Ford Motor Company

FordPass is a world-class customer-facing mobile application used by millions of people around the world. We are looking for an experienced and customer-centric technical program manager who embraces lean and agile practices. The Technical Program Manager will interact directly and continuously with product managers, software engineers and designers, organizing and leading the successful delivery of complex and cross-cutting projects.

In this position, you will:

  • Orchestrate delivery of complex projects and programs for the FordPass and Lincoln Way mobile apps.
  • Build strong relationships with product teams to understand their needs and priorities.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to define project scope, goals, and deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain project plans and schedules.
  • Manage project dependencies and critical path to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate project risks and issues.
  • Predict challenges with interdependencies spanning multiple software systems that go beyond technical and work to eliminate them; proactively helps teams understand technical implications of design decisions and features.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and blockers to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Define and monitor Technical Success Metrics (including KPIs); identifies reaction plan as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project management processes and agile methodologies.
  • Collaborate with product teams to ensure acceptance criteria are clearly defined and understood.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards and business requirements.
  • Ensure timely and effective communication with all stakeholders, including internal teams and external partners.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in direct product/technical program management in highly complex systems, including multiple successful release cycles of significant software at scale. 
  • 6+ years of experience leading cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Deep experience with Agile methodologies and project management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with product teams and stakeholders.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience orchestrating mobile software delivery projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable identifying, sourcing, and analyzing large data sets to identify opportunities.
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment.
  • Experience managing dependencies across functional teams and external partners.
  • Effective prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience developing diagrams to help communicate complex concepts.
  • Experience implementing programs and processes that support how teams work.
  • Experience estimating effort and sizing of work for successful delivery of the product, with an understanding of trade-offs and impacts.
