Job Purpose 

Canoo is seeking a talented and driven new graduate to join our team as a Design Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative engineering solutions to support the manufacturing and production of our industry-leading electric vehicles. As a Design Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate customer requirements and engineering specifications into robust and efficient design solutions.  This role would also include supporting the engineering team as a liaison to the manufacturing team to facilitate quick turnaround on any vehicle build related issues.

Responsibilities (80s of the Position) 

  • Develop and refine design concepts, prototypes, and engineering drawings for Canoo's electric vehicle components and systems.
  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed 3D models and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and procurement teams to ensure designs are optimized for production.
  • Vehicle build engineering support for root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Utilize GT-Suite to develop and execute vehicle level 1D thermal simulation models to size and optimize HVAC and vehicle thermal management system
  • Create in-house software tools which analyze data collected during testing to enhance modeling capabilities and correlate 1D models with real world test data
  • Work in a Multidisciplinary Environment, collaborating with engineers from various disciplines to achieve overall vehicle performance goals
  • Participate in design reviews to communicate design progress and provide simulation results to key stakeholders.
  • Support the creation of design validation plans and the execution of testing procedures.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of design decisions, methodologies, and test results.

Required Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Proficiency in using CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, UG-NX)
  • Proficiency in 1D Physical and thermal models with simulation tools (e.g. GT Suite, Simcenter Amesim etc.)
  • Knowledge of the physics behind battery, powertrain and HVAC systems, and ability to build models for the abovementioned systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability principles
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Passion for sustainable mobility and a desire to contribute to the future of electric vehicle design. 

PreferredExperience  

  • Understanding of EV’s and automotive technology
  • Prior electric vehicle development and/or integration experience
  • Experience of problem investigation and resolution
  • 2-5 years of experience in design and simulation engineering roles (internships and co-ops are applicable)

Travel Requirements

  •  Potentially some travel.
