Job Description
We need an Application Engineering Lead to join our mission and help us build a global platform that’s scalable, reliable and secure. You’ll dive right into projects on dependency management and reinventing how we create services.
About the role
We are looking for a lead with a background in product engineering looking to move into a foundational team. Our team’s mission is to set the standard for what a service looks like here at Wise. We provide the framework, libraries and tooling for product engineering teams to create and maintain services ensuring they are reliable, secure and efficient.
How we work
We operate on a strong belief in automation, programmatic implementation, and reusable design. We’re looking for people who can step back and think holistically about the ecosystem, but also follow through and help implement the design; drawing on the resources across the rest of the platform tribe.
As we grow, the number of services to power the Wise products is constantly increasing. We need to ensure that for these services the maintenance effort is low whilst the quality and performance is kept high. We’re looking for a lead with relevant experience who can analyse complex requirements and deliver simple solutions to help our teams achieve our mission with speed and confidence.
What will you be working on?
Rollout of our new microservice chassis framework
Working closely with product teams to gather requirements and understand where the team needs to invest further
Dependency management improvements
Exploring new languages/frameworks Wise could leverage
What do you need?
You have previous experience of supporting and mentoring a team of engineers, either in a similar role or a product team
Experience in building/maintaining products using Java in a production environment
You understand the value of balancing customer centric thinking and technical skills and can coach other engineers on both
You enjoy creating an inspiring team environment where ideas are shared, and openness is valued

Starting salary: £95,000-£130,000 + RSU
