Who we are?
HealthKey is on a mission to change the way healthcare is paid for.
We believe that by removing friction from how healthcare is paid for, we can make healthcare more accessible, and power an increase in the use of personalised and preventive care.
We’re a seed health tech start-up. We’ve already launched our MVP, and we’ve recently completed a pilot with one of the biggest insurers in the UK. So far, we’ve seen amazing results from the pilot, and we’ve gathered quite a lot of traction.
We’re currently a team of 6 and we’re hoping to find people who want to join us early in our journey.
Job Description
Who are we looking for?
We recognise the value of user-centred design at HealthKey and are looking for a product designer to work with our head of design and developers to build a beautiful and performant product.
As a small team, we’re looking for candidates who have gained some experience in a different company, working on and launching digital products. It doesn’t matter if you’ve worked freelance, in an agency, or for another product company, as long it was in a fairly fast-paced environment. We’d love to hear about any products, in particular any web apps you’ve worked on.
Given our current stage, we’re looking for self-starters – people who can take an idea or feature and run with it. Also, if you consider yourself an eager learner, a conscientious worker, and a thoughtful, kind, supportive human, you may well have a home here.
We don’t place independent value on where you come from, where you live, where you worked before, where you went to school if you graduated or dropped out, or how well you did or didn’t do. We care about who you are today, how you’ll be tomorrow, and what you’re able to do now.
What’s in it for you?
We’re quite at an early stage, so we haven’t ironed out all the details, but we think we’ve captured the most relevant information. And if you’re interested in something that’s not on the list, don’t hesitate to ask us.
- Compensation: as one of our first hires, we’ll offer you equity in HealthKey. We’re also aware that might allow you to buy a house in a few years' time but won’t pay the bills until then, so we’re looking to offer you a salary between £50,000 and £60,000.
- We want you to have the freedom to work from anywhere, but we also value the times we’re together in the office. We don’t need people to come to the office every day, but we also think that it might be difficult to build something together if you’re too far away.
- We believe in flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, at times that suit you and your team.
- We value time off, so everyone at HealthKey gets unlimited time off. We know unlimited sounds better on paper than in practice, so if you struggle to take time off, we will kindly ask you to close your laptop, at least 25 days a year.

Qualifications
What you should bring to the table?
- UI Design: we are looking for candidates who are able to take a brief run with it, using research to inform wireframes through to beautiful high-fidelity prototypes/screens.
- UI Delivery: we don’t expect you to write code, but it would be good if you have experience working with developers on complex journeys, with a high-level understanding of some of the basics (HTML, CSS).
- Research: we want to put our users first, so any experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research would be great. If you haven’t had the opportunity to do this in your previous workplaces, but you’re keen on doing it and learning more about it, we’d still like to have a chat with you.
- Product strategy: we are all building our products together, so we need you to be comfortable zooming out to see the bigger picture. We’d like you to be able to identify opportunities and make well-reasoned design decisions while advocating for the best possible user experience.
- Visual design: we’re in the process of redesigning the HealthKey brand, and you’ll be one of two designers responsible for ensuring it is consistently executed across all channels. So having a keen eye for aesthetics and availability to help with collateral material is something we’ll value quite highly.

What’s it like to work here?
It’s a bit early to talk about our culture, but we have a set of principles, that we’re holding each other accountable for:

- Move fast, even if it sometimes breaks things.
- The better the diversity of people around the table, the better the solution we come up with.
We’re aiming to build a calm, low-distraction environment where you can do your best work. You’ll have fewer meetings, hardly any email, and far fewer interruptions than you’re used to. 8-hour days and 40-hour weeks are plenty of time to do great work, so that’s all we expect. And even though we’re happy for you to work from anywhere, we do believe that there’s a special type of magic that happens when people get together, so we are hoping you wouldn’t mind popping by the office every now and then.
