Job Title: Senior Fluid and Solids Control Advisor
Department: Drilling
Summary: The primary responsibility of the Senior Fluid and Solids Control Advisor is to oversee all aspects of drilling fluids management, solids control, and wellbore cleanout for assigned drilling projects. They will leverage in-depth knowledge and experience to design and implement custom drilling fluid solutions that optimize performance, minimize costs, and ensure wellbore integrity.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Include but are not limited to:
Lead and manage drilling fluids projects from planning and execution to completion, ensuring alignment with project objectives, budget, and timeline
Develop advanced recommendations for fluid and solids control plans that are supported by data and economic analysis
Collaborate with drilling and reservoir engineers to design and select optimal drilling fluids for various wellbore conditions, maximizing drilling efficiency and minimizing formation damage
Develop and implement comprehensive solids control plans, optimizing fluid performance and minimizing environmental impact
Work closely with mud and solids control contractors to ensure proper equipment selection, operation, and maintenance
Continuously monitor and evaluate drilling fluid properties, recommending adjustments and solutions to maintain optimal performance
Identify and implement opportunities to improve wellbore cleanliness, reducing costs and boosting production
Manage reserve pit design, construction, and remediation activities in accordance with environmental regulations
Oversee drilling water management, ensuring quality and compliance with industry standards
Develop and implement cost-effective and environmentally sound filtration solutions for fluid discharge
Experience acting as a technical mentor or coach to mid-level managers
Prepare and support detailed project documentation, including mud reports, solids control plans, and wellbore cleanout procedures
Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility on drilling projects
Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent
A minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in drilling fluids engineering and solids control operations in the oil and gas industry
Advanced proficiency in drilling fluids software, MS Office Suite, and data analysis tools
Proven track record of successfully leading and managing drilling fluids projects
In-depth knowledge of drilling fluid properties, functions, and chemistry
Experience in designing and implementing custom drilling fluid solutions for various wellbore conditions
Expert understanding of solids control equipment and operations, and experience working with mud and solids control contractors
Strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance
Experience acting as a technical mentor or coach to mid-level managers
Industry recognized drilling fluids engineering program certification and mud engineer school certification or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical engineering discipline
Considered an authority in the fluid and solids control field and acts as a technical consultant to the organization
