Quartz Scientific has over 30 years’ experience as an independent UKAS accredited laboratory providing chemical analysis and consultancy to the construction industry. Services provided include tests for aggregates, paint, gypsum plasters and water for concrete.
We are a hard-working team, whose laboratory provides its services to construction projects of all scales, in both the public and private sectors, within the Greater London area and beyond.
The Package

- Starting salary of £18,000 per year (If you are aged 21+ this will increase to National Living Wage after 12 months)

What will I be doing as an Apprentice?
The Data Administration Apprentice is responsible for supporting in the smooth operation of the office.
Daily tasks will include:
- Ensuring the smooth operation of the office on a day-to-day basis;
- Assisting colleagues with any administrative requirements;
- Managing / maintaining office consumables, replenishing stock as required;
- Controlling postage;
- Controlling and development of electronic and hard copy filing systems (including library of technical materials);
- Administering the PPE Matrix;
- Administering purchasing requests;
- Maintaining document recording systems and the issue of record references within the management system;
- Co-ordinating fire prevention procedures;
- Carrying out typing or computer generation of documents, logging received paperwork, filing records (timesheets, technical certificates), maintaining document control, monitoring electronic messaging systems.
- Maintaining supplier records and the PO Index.

We’re looking for someone who is tech savvy, loves analysing data, finding patterns, and extracting stories from that data.
Someone who is brave enough to be themselves, with enough self-confidence to be able to communicate with a range of different people. You’ll also need to be highly motivated, resilient, and able to think on your feet to help solve problems whilst remaining professional and respectful. This is the ideal opportunity for someone who has a genuine passion to work with marketing and data analysis. To succeed in this apprenticeship, you’ll need bags of enthusiasm, be a fantastic collaborator and be hungry to learn!

So how does the apprenticeship work?
At Tiro we’re obsessed with changing lives through science and technology apprenticeships so we can’t wait to have you on board. Over 18 months, you’ll devote a minimum of 6 hours of your working week on ‘off the job’ training. This can include theory training (for example, virtual lessons & online learning), alongside practical training (for example shadowing, mentoring, & time spent writing assignments. Together this will count towards a Level 3 Data Technician apprenticeship. You’ll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor at Quartz Scientific who together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career. Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment. The best part? While we never want to hinder your job application process with obstacles, there are some minimum requirements you’ll need to meet in order to do an apprenticeship, these are rules set by the UK Government. You’ll need to be over 18, not in full time education, have lived in the UK for 3 years and have the right to work in the UK.
