The Wage Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies regarding meal periods, rest breaks, and other regulations. The wage specialist is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing our wage-hour programs by federal and state regulations. The Specialist is responsible for ensuring the compliance and enforcement of all wage-hour programs through our business teams and supports payroll in ensuring that we align to policies and regulations. This position helps to develop and implement strategic and performance planning (setting program goals, objectives and performance measures for the program), interprets statutes, regulations and court precedents. The specialist will support development and implementation of policies for day to day operations.
Responsibilites
Conduct thorough research on labor laws, regulations, and industry standards related to meal periods and rest breaks.
Analyze existing meal and break policies to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with applicable laws and company standards.
Collaborate with HR, Legal and Operations teams to develop and implement updated meal and break policies.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the meal and break programs, making adjustments as necessary to improve satisfaction and productivity.
Provide guidance and training to managers and supervisors on meal and break policies, ensuring consistent implementation and enforcement across the organization.
Partner with payroll to ensure accurate tracking and recording of meal periods and rest breaks
Investigate and address complaints or issues related to meal and break violations, supporting corrective actions with managers.
Stay informed on changes in labor laws and regulations pertaining to meal and break requirements and proactively update policies.
Generate reports and metrics to track compliance with meal and break regulations and identify trends and concerns
Serve as the SME on meal and break policies during audits and other inquiries.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Project management experience preferred.
Preferred HR or compliance background.
Working knowledge of HCHB and Paylocity.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.
Excellent observation, verbal, and written communication skills.
Knowledge of State and Federal wage regulations.
