Cytokinetics is a late-stage, specialty cardiovascular biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing first-in-class muscle activators and next-in-class muscle inhibitors as potential treatments for debilitating diseases in which cardiac muscle performance is compromised. As a leader in muscle biology and the mechanics of muscle performance, the company is developing small molecule drug candidates specifically engineered to impact myocardial muscle function and contractility.
Responsibilities
Lead research project teams with scientific excellence and urgency to enable progression of research compounds into the clinic. Build well-connected teams that are focused towards solving key research problems and have the ability to create innovative and thoughtful risk-taking approaches if needed
Utilize outsourcing budget to maximize impact on research goal achievement
Manage the development of scalable routes for potential development compounds that can be easily transitioned to a process chemistry group
Partner with research leaders to develop a robust small molecule portfolio that is aligned with Cytokinetics strategic vision
Collaborate closely with all functional area leaders in research to ensure efficient workflows and to maintain a diverse and inclusive work environment
Mentor and support the career development of colleagues within the medicinal chemistry group
In collaboration with EH&S, oversee and enforce safe working practices within the medicinal chemistry lab
External communication of Cytokinetics research through publications and presentations
Qualifications
Doctorate level degree in relevant area of chemistry, or equivalent industrial experience with 13+ years of relevant experience developing small molecule drugs within the pharmaceutical industry
High level of synthetic chemistry expertise and working knowledge of the important considerations for process development and manufacturing
Strong record of high impact contributions to research projects that enable progression into the clinic
Minimum 7+ experience managing and developing scientists
Good understanding of the concepts that drive decision making within all key research and development technical areas that are responsible for drug discovery and development
Experience collaborating with and leading teams of internal/CRO staff scientists to meet project goals
Strong record of peer-reviewed scientific publications and presentation
Highly organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Actual salary at the time of hire may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant qualifications, skills, and experience, as well as the service line and location where this position may be filled.
Salary Pay Range$235,000—$287,000 USD
