The Electronic Warfare and Novel Capabilities Group (EWNC) within the STR Sensors Division is at the forefront of developing advanced signal processing algorithms and prototyping systems for next-generation radar and electronic warfare technologies.

The Role  

As an Algorithm & Signal Processing Researcher, you'll have the opportunity to develop and implement state-of-the-art solutions for signal detection, classification, autonomous sensor decision-making, and more.  In this role, you will develop and implement state-of-the-art signal processing techniques, algorithms and system performance models of Multifunction Radar, EW sensors and systems.  

What you will Do:  

  • Design and apply cutting-edge signal processing and machine learning techniques to solve complex radar and RF sensing and counter-sensing challenges such as signal detection, classification, autonomous sensor decision-making, radar, electronic warfare, waveform design, electronics support measures, and more 
  • Develop and integrate countermeasures (including algorithm development and signal processing) and test their effectiveness in a high-tech laboratory and on government over-the-air test ranges 
  • Develop models of RF threats,  conduct requirements analysis and risk and capability assessments in order to optimize EW responses to those threats 
  • Apply your knowledge of radar, RF electronics, and related technologies to enhance the performance of EW systems 
  • Design and implement models and simulations for advanced RF systems 
  • Support business development and proposal writing efforts 
  • Collaborate with diverse teams to develop and deploy cutting-edge capabilities to prototype systems 

Who You Are:  

  • This position requires obtaining an active Secret or TS/SCI security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is needed by U.S. Government  
  • PhD, MS, or BS in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related technical discipline 
  • 2+ years of experience in two or more of the following areas:  RF/radar signal processing, optimization, waveform design, electronic warfare, machine learning, adaptive signal processing, AI/ML algorithm development, algorithm development, model & simulation,  systems engineering, test engineering, radar modeling, or RF systems prototyping 
  • Proficiency in in one or more scientific or mathematical programming languages, such as MATLAB, Python, and C/C++ 
  • Strong mathematical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills 

Nice to Haves:  

  • Experience with RF technologies in the defense sector, particularly for sensing and electronic warfare applications including electronic attack, electronic protection, cognitive EW, and advanced ESM techniques and algorithms  
  • Experience with machine learning tasks such as natural language processing, image recognition, semantic segmentation, reinforcement learning, approaches such as Bayesian, deep convolutional and graph neural network methods, and tools such as PyTorch, Ray, TensorFlow/board, and MLflow    
  • Ability to apply novel, innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to challenging engineering problems  
  • Ability to survey literature to determine state-of-the-art, incorporate recent research and apply to current problem sets  
  • Understanding and experience in interacting with decision-makers and customers to translate mission needs into an end-to-end analytical solution  
  • Ability to create and present briefings to Customers and senior management to provide both high-level and deep technical solution explanations
