The Role
We are seeking an Associate Director, Data Governance for a 12-month fixed term contract, ideally starting as soon as possible. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for data governance and meticulous attention-to-detail. We're looking for someone who would enjoy innovating new approaches to data governance and connecting with a broad variety of colleagues, all within a within a fast-paced, industry-leading company.
You would lead and manage company-wide data governance activities, focusing on ensuring adherence to a framework for data policies, standards and practices to achieve the required levels of quality; and serving as a point of escalation for governance, data quality and protection issues.
You would work closely with business and functional leadership to improve the quality and value of core data assets, respond to regulatory and contractual requirements, and support the differing requirements of the business to ensure data is being responsibly managed and protected.
Please note this is a hybrid role and regular travel is required to our office in either Oxford, UK or Dundee, UK (approximately 2 days per week), with flexibility to work from home in the UK the remaining time. We are a flexible working organisation and we’re willing to consider other options which would provide similar contact time with the team.
You will have the opportunity to:
Design and deliver a company-wide data governance framework, programme and implementation roadmap for how the company can best govern and manage its data assets. This includes, but is not limited to:
The protection of sensitive data through modifications to organisational behaviour, policies and standards;
Improvement of data quality
Governance metrics, master data processes and related tools.
Lead and develop champions across the business to ensure data governance policies and practices are embedded throughout the company.
Align any data governance programs and initiatives with business strategies and roadmaps e.g. information security strategy.
Define and coordinate data mapping and flow documentation and develop and maintain an inventory of the business’s information maps, including systems and owners.
Requirements
Essential skills:
Hands-on experience with Data Governance operations, developing the supporting tools, artefacts and capabilities required for effective Data Governance (eg: responsibilities, policies, standards, processes, procedures, data quality management, KPI definition and reporting, and metadata management such as cataloguing, data lineage etc).
Working knowledge of regulatory considerations for Data Governance in either the medical, clinical, technical or pharmaceutical industries, particularly in relation to UK and EU regulations.
Experience of working in a cloud-first company and using cloud-based applications, eg. Google Workspace, O365, Box, etc.
Experience in developing and leading data governance programmes or frameworks.
Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection.
Experience working in a multi-disciplined Agile and DevOps environment.
Desirable skills:
Flexible approach and ability to take account of new information, changed circumstances and business requirements then modify the response to a problem or situation accordingly.
Excellent analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
Ability to work under pressure in a busy and fast-paced environment.
Understanding of Data regulations in the US.
