Are you interested in being part of an innovative team that supports Westinghouse’s mission to provide clean energy solutions? At Westinghouse, we recognize that our employees are our most valuable asset and we seek to identify, attract and recruit the most qualified talent while recognizing and encouraging the value of diversity in the global workplace.
Fauske & Associates (FAI) is a division of Westinghouse Electric Company located in Burr Ridge, Illinois, approximately 20 miles southwest of downtown Chicago. The company was founded in 1980 and has brought a high tech capability to the understanding of issues related to both nuclear reactor safety and chemical reactor safety. The principals and staff are recognized in the nuclear and chemical industries for phenomenological modeling and development of tools related to the prevention and accommodation of chemical and nuclear plant accidents. The services provided to customers all around the world for the last 30 years are unique and specialized. They reflect the skill and knowledge of a group of individuals dedicated to providing the best means of protecting mankind and the environment.
FAI was the principal research contractor for the Design Institute for Emergency Relief Systems (DIERS). A primary purpose of that effort was evaluation of emergency relief vent requirements, including energy and gas release rates for systems under upset conditions, and the effect of two phase flow on the emergency discharge process. The DIERS program resulted in the development of a bench scale low thermal inertia adiabatic calorimeter, which was first commercialized as the Vent Sizing Package (VSP). Later improvements led to the VSP2. The Reactive System Screening Tool (RSST) was introduced by FAI in 1989 to provide an easy, inexpensive approach to the DIERS testing methodology. Enhancements led to the Advanced Reactive Systems Screening Tool (ARSST) in 1999. FAI uses the VSP2 and ARSST calorimeters to characterize chemical systems and design emergency pressure relief systems.
