SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER OR METALLURGICAL ENGINEER
Major Focus of Position: Provide engineering support at a zirconium manufacturing facility for equipment, systems and processes for use in commercial nuclear power industry. The plant contains a variety of equipment used in chemical and metals manufacturing industries including chemical processing systems (separators, fluidized bed reactors, distillation furnaces), vacuum arc furnaces, electron beam furnaces and welders, lathes, annealing furnaces, pre-heat furnaces, forges, extrusion presses, pilgers, cranes and lifting fixtures, boilers, cooling towers, planers and mills.
Responsibilities:
Assume lead technical responsibility for development and administration of one or more major manufacturing programs, systems or activities. This includes monitoring system performance, specification of new processes and designs as well as development, installation, and qualification of new products, processes and/or equipment.
Assume lead technical responsibility for design and implementation of new or modified systems. This includes specification of new processes and equipment designs, as well as, overseeing and coordinating installation, fabrication, testing and qualification of new equipment or processes. Ensure compliance to safety and regulatory requirements.
Apply engineering analytical skills to identify causes of failures in systems and recommend resolutions.
Analyze and recommend utilization of technological innovations in material, machinery, manufacturing, and chemical processing techniques to solve complex manufacturing problems and drive continuous improvement.
Identify and implement process improvement opportunities to improve yield, FTT, process safety and productivity.
Address customer and regulatory requirements and concerns. Prepare technical papers and make formal presentations to customers and regulators.
Analyze and make proposals for new business opportunities and implement strategic plans.
Minimum Requirements:
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or Metallurgy.
2-5 Years minimum of engineering experience in a manufacturing or chemical plant
Working knowledge of ASME codes
Strong teamwork skills – including leadership and participation
Oral and written communication skills must be clear, concise, and convincing.
Presentation skills critical to influence derived outcome.
Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically to drive improvements in the business and/or resolve customer or product issues and concerns.
