Definition of Class
This position supports the development and maintenance of network systems at the school and/or unit level. The incumbent provides technical support to network users.
This position is a Network Administrator for the Library Information Technology Department of the Library. The incumbent is supervised by the Head of Library Information Technology.
Examples of Work Performed
- Install, configure, and maintain servers, desktops, laptops, printers, and other hardware and software systems.
- Install, configure, and upgrade software applications on user computers. Provide guidance and instructions to users on software usage, best practices, and troubleshooting common issues.
- Monitor and troubleshoot system issues and perform regular maintenance tasks to ensure system stability and reliability.
- Administer user accounts, including creating new accounts, managing access permissions, resetting passwords, and disabling accounts as required. Ensure user accounts are maintained in compliance with security policies and procedures.
- Provide technical support to employees and students in-person and via email, chat, and phone.
- Perform system backups and disaster recovery procedures and ensure that data is secured and protected.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies, systems, and tools to improve users' experience, performance, and efficiency.
- Manage Active Directory and Group Polices.
- Work with vendors to gather hardware/software specifications and pricing and part of the purchasing process.
- As appropriate, coordinate with other campus technology units such as Network Services and Classroom Technology to support additional technologies deployed in the libraries.
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.
Essential Functions

- Develops and installs computer programs and network systems for individual schools and/or units.
- Monitors operations and performs necessary maintenance to network systems.
- Provides technical assistance to faculty and staff regarding network operations and capabilities.
Minimum Education/Experience
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field from a college or university.
AND
Experience:
One (1) year of experience related to the above described duties.
Substitution Statement: Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
