About the Opportunity

Across the Province of Nova Scotia, there are robust Hospitalist programs, which benefit from the expertise of Associate Physicians (APs). Active AP’s working within the Hospitalist program are licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) under the Clinical Assistant license type and are employed by NSH to provide primary clinical care within the Hospitalist Program as Physician extenders.

Within this opportunity we will be providing a pathway for Associate Physicians to obtain a Restricted license as Physician Hospitalist and the Most Responsible Physician (MRP). This will be achieved through a 2-year competency-based training and assessment program with established standards, and a curriculum of training that includes direct/ indirect supervision and a Comprehensive Clinical Assessment of Practice. *The focus of this program will be on continuous quality improvement and this opportunity will not lead to full licensure or licensure outside of the Hospitalist role.

Throughout the duration of the 2-year program, APs will assist in the provision of care under the authority of the Program Director and Preceptor (staff Physician with privileges within the department in which the AP will be practicing). Participation in the on-call schedule is required and will be assigned by the Program Director, completed by the AP, with direct and indirect oversight by the Preceptor.
