Mechanical Equipment Technician (MET)
REPORTS TO: Plant Engineer
POSITION DETAILS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a non-rotating, straight 8-hour shift position with a normal schedule of M-F, but some weekends may be required.
Safety: The operator follows prescribed safety procedures (Ref. SHMS 004).
This procedure explains the job description of the Mechanical Equipment Technician (MET).
The primary responsibility of the Mechanical Equipment Technician (MET) also known as a Maintenance Technician is to safely maintain the equipment or assigned area by performing proper mechanical duties at Alma. This includes working in a team environment toward common goals for compliance with corporate and complex initiatives.
Responsibilities: Repairing Plant Lift Trucks and performing preventative maintenance on them including hydraulic cylinder repairs, hydraulic hose replacement, servicing brakes, all aspects of maintaining lift trucks.
Performing Maintenance on the support equipment.
Servicing the Plant Loading dock levelers / monthly preventative maintenance.
Inspecting Plant Hoists for Safety / proper operation.
Must be willing to travel for bi-annual training for lift truck maintenance and hoist maintenance usually held in Greenville, S.C. Training can last 2-3 days.
Performing readiness tests / weekly running of plant fire protection diesels and emergency generator.
Maintaining Grounds upkeep equipment, performing preventative maintenance on tractors, pumps, String trimmer etc.
Greasing Lubrication of fans used in HVAC, ventilation, roof fans, etc.
Maintaining plant chlorinators for proper operation.
Operation of Lift Trucks and skyjacks.
Assuring the equipment safety and environmental standards throughout plant.
Involvement in the plant safety process and participating on an assigned safety team.
Occasionally filling in for a rotating tech if they are out which could include night shift schedule.
Complete the maintenance services on equipment in a timely manner.
Help to maintain spare parts for assigned area and vendor communications.
Proper housekeeping in work areas.
Special projects assigned including assembling, moving and retrofitting equipment.
Participate in off-shift activities which include call backs for breakdown opportunities.
Troubleshooting and cause analysis activities.
Familiar with completing checklists, reading mechanical drawings and OEM manuals.
Participate in team meetings by sharing performance, opportunities and ideas to improve.
Goals:
1. Improve maintenance skills through standardization.
2. Adherence to corporate audits and mechanical standards
3. Improve maintenance performance utilizing measurement system
4. Parts failure analysis and spare parts inventory control
5. Improve MTBF after maintenance

Authorized Shut Down: The operator is authorized to shut down the machine if it is unsafe or producing off quality.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent education and/or experience
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Experience in using various types of manufacturing machinery and tools typically found in carpet/non-woven- yarn production or a related industry.
PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE
Proven manufacturing experience typically developed through previous experience.

ADDITIONAL JOB DIMENSIONS
ASSOCIATED RISKS: Inappropriate handling of the materials resulting in overexertion and exhaustion, risk of equipment failure and complacency that may lead to procedures followed incorrectly. Employees who don’t value the importance of physically lifting objects the right way risk strains and sprains and even broken bones. Heavy equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts present numerous dangers to personnel. Contact with moving machine parts and products resulting in injury.
