Serco Maritime Services deliver maritime support packages tailored to our customers’ needs all delivered within a national accreditation framework. As owners and operators of specialist vessels, from harbour workboats to oceangoing support vessels, we provide world class integrated maritime services both in the UK and abroad. 

 

Our vessels provide a range of support, which include for example: dive support, military training, submarine rescue exercises, target/test equipment deployment/recovery and passenger transfers. 

 

Serco are currently recruiting for a Junior Engineer on an initial 6 month fixed term contract (FTC) to join the existing team at Portsmouth. The purpose of the role is the overall responsibility for the operational state and maintenance of all machinery and electrical equipment on board the vessel.


 
Main Accountabilities:
 

 

  • The operation maintenance, performance, availability, security, custody and safety of all equipment and systems in his charge.
  • The custody of drawings and publications associated with the equipment and systems in his charge, and of ships machinery spares and stores appropriate to his department.
  • The compilation of records, reports, and returns in associated with the Barge Master for standards of fire prevention and firefighting onboard vessels.
  • Provide all necessary written procedures for the Engineering Department aboard, as required by the Quality System or the ISM Code as appropriate. · Demand stores, fuel, and spare gear as necessary.
  • To act as the Ship’s Safety and Environmental Officer.
  • Member of the Ship’s Management Team
  • Leadership and Line Management of crew/assigned team, including full engagement with Company processes and people management systems 

 
 

What you’ll need to do the role:
 

  • Certificate of Competency issued under reg, lll/3 of the STCW 95 code
  • Elementary First Aid
  • Fire Fighting
  • PST Certificate
  • PSSR Certificate
  • ENG1 Medical

This position requires applicant live locally and to be able to commute within 2 hours of Portsmouth Naval Base. The position will also require applicant to be available to provide engineer absence cover within the Serco fleet of vessels which may include day work or rotational crews.
