Job Title: Shop assistant

Location: HMP Dovegate, Uttoxeter ST14 8XR

Working hours: Full time, 40 hours

Salary: Up to £23,495

 

HMP Dovegate is a category B male establishment prison based on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border near Uttoxeter. The operational capacity is for 1100 prisoners and it takes a whole team of people to keep the facility safe, secure and in proper working order.

 

We have an opening for a Shop Assistant to join our team. The key purpose of this role is to provide and carry out retail services within HMP Dovegate, in accordance with all relevant and current regulations, legislation and guidelines. You will assist the Stores and Shop Manager in the delivery of retail services to the whole establishment and complies with all relevant Health & Safety and Food Safety Regulations, legislation and guidelines. You will be responsible to ensure the security and food safety of all foodstuffs and stock items is maintained during delivery, storage and distribution within the shop and prison areas.


Some of other key accountabilities will include:

  • To undertake stock checks, provision planning and ordering for all products from various suppliers

  • React to complaint issues and trends, with a cohesive approach along with the whole retail team

  • To train for and carry out any other work reasonably acceptable within the capabilities of the post holder.

 

What you’ll need to do the role

To be considered for this role you must have Literacy and Numeracy at Level 2 or equivalent GCSE qualifications. It is essential that you have good computer skills including knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook applications. It is important that you have good supervisory skills with strong interpersonal skills, including good oral and written communication. The successful post holder must be able to demonstrate resilience with a basic understanding of both conflict resolution and de-escalation and risk and conflict management. You must be assertive, creative and progressive along with good problem-solving skills
