Here at Serco we have a full time post available for Chef to join our Catering team here at HMP Doncaster.
HMP & YOI Doncaster is a Category B prison and it predominantly serves the courts of South Yorkshire and currently holds up to 1,145 male prisoners over the age of 18. We are located in the centre of Doncaster Town Centre within walking distance of the railway station and bus station. As a resettlement prison we work with our prisoners, particularly those serving less than 12-months, to ensure that they have the support they need for resettlement as well as access to the services and support available to them after release. Most of our prisoners are released back into South Yorkshire.

The purpose of this role is to provide and carry out catering services within HMP Doncaster in accordance with all relevant and current regulations, legislation and guidelines.
The successful post holder will organise, supervise and provide varied and healthy meals for prisoners to include special diets, special events and religious events. Keeping abreast of changing trends and developments in the catering industry such as menus, consumer tastes, seasonal variations etc.
They will ensure the security and food safety of all foodstuffs is maintained during delivery, storage and distribution within the kitchen area.
Additionally, they will record and document all relevant paperwork to comply with food hygiene regulations, Health & Safety, HACCP and Company Policies.
Another aspect of the role involves providing training and supervision to kitchen workers and any prisoners involved in food production or service.
As the Chef you will carry out random Quality Checks at food service points before, during and after mealtimes.
What you need to do the job:
First and foremost, you’ll need to have at least 1-2 years’ worth of Chef/ Catering experience (Any experience in a custodial setting would be extremely desirable however full training will be provided). As a minimum you will have an NVQ Level 2 in Food Safety and an NVQ in Food Preparation & Production (City & Guilds 706 1 & 2 would also be highly desirable).
The post holder will be able to work efficiently, work to tight deadlines, be a dedicated team player, have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a socially diverse environment. We are looking for someone that can communicate at all levels, build strong working relationships and be a successful part of an ever-growing team.
The successful applicant will be required to work shifts patterns including 10 hour shifts and some weekend work.
