At RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, Serco has been providing multi-activity and engineering support since 1997. Serco proudly support the RAF and MoD, supplying around 20 different services onsite, from engine and aircraft maintenance, to fuelling and ground control services. RAF Brize Norton is the largest operating base within the Royal Air Force, providing air transport and air-to-air refuelling to the RAF fleet.
We have an exciting opportunity to join the team here at Brize Norton as the Operations Manager for our Airfield Support Transport team. You will manage Serco transport colleagues in order to achieve the delivery of business objectives and contractual obligations.
Main accountabilities:
- Liaison between the Royal Air Force transport management team and Serco colleagues for the delivery of contractual outputs.
- Working with the RAF Training Manager, ensure the Serco Specialist Training Section team achieves their contractual training obligations.
- Ensure the correct people management, welfare support and administration of Serco transport colleagues including the auditing of pay and leave submissions received from the Team Leaders.
- Support Team Leaders in their responsibilities for output and people management as well as providing ongoing coaching, training, and development of the team in line with contract processes.
- Ensure that all shifts are efficiently resourced to meet the requirement.
- Ensure all Serco colleagues are correctly trained and competent.
- Where appropriate, become suitably qualified on the specialist vehicles to support the output.
- Promote exceptional levels of safety and quality “Zero Harm” culture with open honest reporting of Near Misses and safety related occurrences.
- Develop and drive a continuous improvement culture, with focus on improving efficiency.
What you'll need to do the role:
- Cat B Driving Licence (Cat C desirable).
- Hold a colour perception category of the required standard to enable the issue of an Airfield Driving Permit.
- Previous management experience (including people management) in a transport and/or or aviation arena would be an advantage.
- Competent in the use of the Microsoft Office package.
- High standard of communication skills.
- Must be able to achieve SC vetting status.
- APLO qualification would be an advantage but not essential.
