Barge Operative-Marine Scotland
Permanent, Full time, 48 hours per week
Greenock, PA15 2AR

Competitive salary plus benefits 
Working Routine – Mon – Fri 0800 – 1700 (O/T Payments outside these hours)


Serco have an exciting opportunity for a Barge Operative to join the Marine team in Greenock, Scotland. 


The key purpose of this role is to conduct barge operations primarily sewage and sullagetasking within the Clyde Port Area. If trained and qualified, this may also include fueldelivery and bunkering. The role will also involve undertaking maintenance andpreservation of Barge Group vessels in line with Company procedures.

 

Reporting directly to the Line Manager, Tech Superintendent and Operations departmentfor overall oversight. The role will be located and operating withing the Clyde Operational Areas. The barges will be based at either Greenock (PA15 2AR) or Faslane (G84 8HL).


Main Accountabilities:

 

  • To conduct barge operations as defined in the ‘Key Purpose’ to assets as tasked by Operations and within the Clyde Operating Ares as defined by the customer.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and preservation of the vessels in accordance with the Company’s approved system
  • Maintain a safe working environment regarding Health and Safety at Work Act and Oil Pollution Regulations
  • Responsible for loading and discharging of cargoes including fuel lubricants, water, sullage and sewage
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations
  • To be fully aware of and capable of carrying out emergency operation of all vessel systems
  • To be responsible for, and assist, Base staff and sub-contractors working onboard
  • Communicate effectively with Customers, Management, and office staff


What you’ll need to do the role:

 

  • Deckhand with AB or EDH CoC, EOOW with CoC or SMEOL with appropriate licence.
  • In date ENG1
  • Relevant STCW qualification.
  • Additional qualifications as required by Serco to fulfil the role.
  • Addition/Special features of the role
  • Health and Safety awareness
  • Prepared to train so fully conversant with the operation of all barges in port.
  • AEC 1 (Desirable but not essential). Will be discussed at interview.
