Your Opportunity
We are looking to hire a Security Guard who will safeguard the security of Camp Baird and the surrounding perimeter of the base location. The role will fall into two disciplines; Entry Point Security Guards and Patrol Guards – both of which comprise of similar responsibilities and will work on a rotational basis throughout the contract. Individuals deployed into Security Guard roles on this contract will be a minimum Baseline AGSVA (Australian Government Security Vetting Agency) security level cleared.
Individuals deployed into Security Guard roles on this contract will be a minimum Baseline AGSVA (Australian Government Security Vetting Agency) security level cleared or have the ability to obtain the AGSVA baseline clearance under Serco sponsorship upon commencement of employment.
The ideal candidate should be highly motivated and flexibility to work in a time-sensitive environment to respond quickly and effectively to unanticipated high workloads, events and emergencies.
The role, Security Guard, reports to the on-duty Security Team Leader who reports to the Fire and Security Manager at our MELABS contract in Dubai.
Key Accountabilities
Fundamentally, these individuals will be required to maintain an active awareness of current threat levels and to remain vigilant in the reporting of any suspicious activities observed.
Security Guards will provide friendly, helpful customer service whenever possible and at all times maintain collaborative working relationship (s) with Defence personnel (Military and Australian Public Service), other Defence contractors and external agencies (e.g., Local Police).
Security Guards are deployed as a deterrent, there is no requirement for security staff to engage suspect individuals physically or physically detain individuals suspected of non-compliance with base security protocols. Any incident encountered is to be immediately reported to the on-duty client representative who will direct appropriate action.
Security Guards will be requested to escort personnel in various locations on site when directed by management.
All Security Guards must display their security licence on their person whilst on duty.
Entry Point Security Guard – Operational Duties:
Visual identification, verification and P-tracking compliance, preventing entry and exit of all unauthorised personnel and vehicles.
Ensure visitors comply with site induction requirements.
Issue, receipt and record temporary and visitor passes.
Monitor surveillance systems (where available and applicable).
Act as a deterrent to prevent the unauthorised removal of Defence assets or classified information.
Reporting of any concerns, issues, or suspicious activities observed to the identified client on-duty personnel.
Security Patrol Guards – Operational Duties:
Conduct periodic non-armed facility patrols of designated site(s), internal perimeters and building exteriors/interiors – preventing and detecting sign of intrusion or fault.
Respond or divert immediately to attend to any activated alarm on base.
Respond, answer alarms and investigate disturbances on base.
Patrolling internal grounds using a vehicle and visually identifying authorised personnel and vehicles that are on base, including the prevention of unauthorised removal of Defence assets and/or classified information.
Conduct walk-arounds of designated site (s), perimeters and building exteriors. Any suspicious activity or areas of security breaches to be notified as required;
Perimeter fencing to be checked regularly for any signs of tampering or trespassing and notified as required. Same applies to buildings within the base and general overall base facilities.
Buildings/facilities that are not in use at any time need to be locked and checked regularly to confirm access into these buildings has not been compromised or tampered with.
Buildings/facilities that are used on a daily basis need to be locked as per client recommendations when not in use by personnel and made sure entry to these buildings/facilities is not compromised when not in service or closed.
Responsibility to observe, respect and support client specific culture, values and military tradition at all times when on duty.
Specific Requirements
AGSVA Security Clearance requirements:
Possess an active Australian Baseline security clearance or higher issued by AGSVA OR
Previously held a baseline clearance or higher in the past approx. 8 years (so Serco can sponsor the reactivation of the security clearance) OR
Candidate is provide a recent police criminal history report from Australia (and also from the local GCC country if candidate is currently residing in the GCC) so Serco can sponsor the successful candidates application to AGSVA for a baseline clearance - only Australian Citizens are eligible for security clearance.
Fluent English communication skills (reading, writing and spoken) and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and work productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Ability to communicate effectively, meet the public, respond to questions, and furnish information
Ability to follow instructions explicitly and to exercise judgment and act quickly in an emergency situation
Candidate must have the appropriate accredited competencies, skills, proficiencies, licenses and qualifications. This includes possessing at the minimum a valid Certificate II in Security Operations and a security license issued by the applicable Australian State Governing Organization (or approved equivalent). The security license shall at the minimum, include the below license functions:
Crowd Controller
Security Officer (Unarmed)
Security Officer (Monitoring) subject to this competency being listed on the candidates security license by the licensing authority in the subject State/Territory in Australia
