Training and Development Manager
University Hospital Southampton
Full time – 37.5 hours per week - The role requires a level of flexibility to meet the needs of the business; it will include some weekend, evening, and night work to meet the delivery of training to all staff.
Salary £30,000 - £35,000 depending on experience plus Serco benfits
Main Purpose:
The Training and Development Manager assumes a pivotal role in the UHS Serco Health Contract by overseeing the provision, monitoring, and delivery of training initiatives. At the core of this responsibility lies the overarching objective to elevate the knowledge, skills, and competencies of our staff. This, in turn, is designed to make a tangible and positive impact on the quality of services extended to the UHS. The post holder will source, co-ordinate and deliver relevant training courses across the contract and report KPI’s and provide weekly and monthly reporting to support delivery.
Main Accountabilities:
- Conducting comprehensive job analyses, gap analyses, and regular consultations with service leads to identify training and development needs within the contract.
- Tailoring training and development programs to address both contractual requirements and individual employee needs.
- Assessing the cost-effectiveness of planned training initiatives and adhering to allocated budgets.
- Continuously reviewing and refining training programs to accommodate changes in the work and legal environments.
- Creating and implementing effective induction programs for new employees.
- Ensuring timely completion of department-specific policy and procedure training as part of the induction process.
- Guaranteeing compliance with all mandatory training requirements.
- Maintaining up-to-date and accurate staff training records using the Learning Management System.
- Facilitating classroom-based sessions for mandatory training sessions.
- Customizing training materials to suit the needs and preferences of different audiences.
- Generating reports and disseminating training updates regarding outstanding, expiring, and completed sessions.
- Monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate training effectiveness and inform decision-making.
- Coordinating training schedules and securing appropriate rooms to accommodate departmental requirements.
- Providing support in various other aspects of training and development as needed.
- Responsible for training champions on contract, ensuring they complete their training and support with delivery.
What you will need for the role:
Systems and Equipment:
- Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Use of database to record training data
- Use of projectors and other IT equipment used for training delivery
- Frequent use of DSE, computer, keyboard, printer and photocopiers to carry out duties
Other skills and knowledge required:

- Previous experience of training delivery would be advantageous but not essential
- Qualified to a minimum of GCSE grade C in English, Maths and Science, or equivalent
- CIPD (L&D) Qualification to similar would be advantageous but not essential
