Build Operative
UK Defence Academy, Swindon, SN6 8LA
Full time, Permanent (37 hours a week)
Salary £22,000 - £28,000 dependent on experience
Serco is contracted to provide Total Facilities Management to the Defence Academy of the UK (DA). This prestigious establishment is responsible for post-graduate education and most of the command, staff, leadership, Defence management, acquisition, and technology training for members of the UK Armed Forces and MOD Civil Servants. Serco supports the DA as the MOD's primary link with UK universities and international military educational institutions.
Serco have an exciting new role as a Build Operative. You will be undertaking preventative and reactive emergency and routine maintenance repairs to a variety of building fabric services, on MOD buildings, providing a customer focused and cost-effective service when doing so.
Main Accountabilities:
Carry out repairs to a variety of building services and demonstrate their competence to multi-skill outside their core trade to include carpentry, building work, and grounds work and drainage related leaks
Reactive work includes fencing, tiling, curtain and blind repairs, locks, guttering, doors, hinges and door furniture, kitchen cabinets and worktops, small flooring jobs and any other relevant build jobs
Be involved with refurbishment, planned and reactive maintenance.
Work with minimal supervision and have the ability to make decisions on the most appropriate repair solution.
To undertake a continual programme of risk assessment in relation to your role
Provide exceptional service to our high-profile client and go the extra mile to deliver to the highest quality standard in all building areas
Utilise both electronic and paper-based systems to accurately record documentation including the use of materials against each job.
Attend training as and when required to continue your development in the role and comply with changes within the industry.
Attend team briefs, Toolbox talks and technical bulletins on a monthly basis or as when required.
What you’ll need to do the role:
Essential skills –
Trade Background & Qualifications (recognised qualification or apprenticeship)
Extensive Knowledge in building fabric services
Good standards of numeracy and literacy
Basic IT skills
Able to obtain and maintain basic security clearance
Full UK driving licence
Ideally practical experience in Carpentry, building fabric services in Commercial and Industrial environments
The Defence Academy sits within a beautiful and secure site which hosts 2 lakes and is surrounded by acres of scenic woodland. The Academy trains the future commanders and staff officers of all three UK Armed Services and those from many countries around the world. Other benefits of working on this site include:
