Job Descrption

Salary & Benefits: Salary range £30,877 - £38,588 per annum dependant on experience, annual bonus, attractive pension scheme (Up to 10% company contribution), life assurance cover of 4 times pensionable salary and 25 days annual leave, bank holidays, plus a wellness day and development opportunities in line with the Environmental Advisor progression plan. Location:  Bradford / Hybrid Working (1 - 2 office a week – Bradford)
 

Work type:  This is a temporary post for 2 years duration. Working full time,  37 hours per week, Monday – Friday between a working window of 8:00am-6:00pm
 

We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Advisor to join the Asset Strategy & Policy Team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

We are a small close knit team of nine, who make the time to regularly collaborate in person. Working as part of the wider Asset Strategy and Policy function we are responsible for influencing and negotiating with regulators and stakeholders to enable sustainable environmental improvements.
 

We embrace a flexible working model, where our hybrid setup typically requires an average of 2 day in the office site per week. This could be slightly more when collaborative efforts, training or meeting deadlines demand it. For those who prefer to work on-site, our office is open Monday-Friday during working hours.

 

Where you fit in:
 

As our Environmental Advisor you will provide expert advice to the business on matters concerning environmental regulation. You will be providing advice to the business on the impact of new, changed and existing environmental legislation.
 

You will provide regulatory and permitting support and advice to capital investment schemes to ensure that they comply with the Company’s environmental quality obligations. You will also assist or lead environmental investigations in support of both capital and operational activities of the business.
 

You will use your technical knowledge to ensure that policies, procedures and associated interpretations are up to date and disseminated within the business. You will also assist in the production of Asset Management Plan submissions.
 

A key aspect of the role will be influencing the application of environmental legislation and associated Environment Agency policies and procedures by developing and maintaining links with environmental regulatory bodies and NGOs at regional level.
 

What skills & qualifications you will need:
 

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the key pieces of environmental legislation related to the water industry and the various environmental permissions required by the business. You will have a good understanding of environmental science, particularly related to water industry and the key environmental guidance and regulatory approaches adopted by the environmental regulator, in regard to the company’s activities.  


 You will also have the following skills:
 

•    Good data handling and analysis skills.
•    Proficient user of word-processing and spreadsheets.
•    Strong written and oral communication.
•    Can present effectively to small groups of people (up to 20).
•    Able to influence and negotiate on environmental regulatory matters at a local level. 
•    Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships.
