Job Brief:
Riggers help operate machines that move heavy objects including Pipework, Pipe spools, Steel plates, and fabricated pipe bundles.
Main Responsibilities:
• As a Rigger, you will have, many responsibilities including deciding which pulleys, booms, braces and cables are strong enough for each job. You will work as part of a team
• Responsible for moving heavy loads such as pipes using a variety of forklift trucks.
• Rigging, or Moving Loads, is one of the most highly responsible jobs in the engineering and construction industry. The ideal candidate should be keen, capable and willing
• To accept and work hard in fulfilling this responsibility. You must be able to work well as a member of a team, having the safety of self, others, the load and the lifting
• Planning and executing a lift requires a thorough and logical approach, excellent communication skills and the persistence to see the job all the way through to a successful conclusion.
• You will be expected to know where to attach the hooks, chains and cables that are used to lift a load safely and in some cases you will be responsible for building up of pipe spools for welding
• While the object is being lifted, Rigger must be able to use hand signals, radios, walkie-talkies and other means to direct crane operators and help guide the objects being moved into place, so good communication - by a variety of means - is vital in the Rigger's role.
• Select gear, such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weight and size, facilities and work schedule.
• Fabricate and repair rigging, such as slings, tackle, and ladders, using hand and power tools.
• Attach load to rigging, to provide support or prepare for moving, using hand and power tools.
• Signal or gives verbal directions to workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials.
• Test rigging, to ensure safety and reliability.
• Dismantle, maintain and store rigging equipment.
Qualifications:
• ECITB's Moving Loads S/NVQ level 3 is the ideal qualification for Riggers in the engineering construction industry. You will also benefit from having a
• CCNSG Safety Passport and ACE (Assuring Competence in Engineering Construction) Card.
• Much of the work will require specific on-the-job training that will be offered by employers, but in any case qualifications for forklift trucks
Experience:
• Experience of work within the Process, Pipe fabrication, Plant or Power Generation
• Industries.
