Based at our Luton manufacturing plant you’ll do just that. Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed, Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 400+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, food hub and vending machines.
Based at our Luton Manufacturing site and working across both our Civil and Defence Business Lines the Senior Quality Engineer will join the Quality team to lead quality activities aligned with the strategic direction of the organisation in relation to all topics related to product quality. As deputy to the Site Quality Manager you’ll lead the development and deployment of advanced quality planning activities within GKN Aerospace and support the evaluation, co-ordination and monitoring of achieved levels of conformity.
This is a full-time position and core operational hours at our Luton site are: 07:30 - 16:30 Monday to Thursday & 07:30 - 12:30 Friday.
• Manufacturing process flow charts
• Provide support and guidance and by the use of Quality tools, lean tools and techniques to enable them to independently assure that Quality requirements are met
• Ensure compliance to process and procedures to support an efficient business
• Process FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis)
• Control plans (inspection and certification controls)
• Measurement systems evaluation
• Process capability studies
• Production part approval, through First Article Inspection
• Assures that the Quality system is being adhered to within the business
• Assures that certification processes are consistently defined and applied within the business
• The facilitation of the use of 8 Disciplines (8D) within the business area.
• To perform initial investigations to assess probable cause, informing the accountable function and ensuring corrective and preventative action is taken.
• Provide support to customers/authorities as necessary
• Provide product quality performance indicators
• Establish problem definition, root cause analysis, customer protection and corrective and preventative action
• Lead investigations into customer reported quality problems
• Where necessary, working with supporting departments such as Procurement and Operations on quality issues
• Act as a guide and point of contact for customer and airline quality representatives as necessary
To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:
Essential:
• Educated to HND/Degree level in Engineering or similar or completed Apprenticeship
• Experience within a Manufacturing Environment
• Practical knowledge of manufacturing and Quality Management Systems
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical data
• In-depth experience of problem solving using appropriate quality tools and techniques
• Demonstrated practical knowledge and deployment of quality tools and techniques
• In depth knowledge of regulatory approvals relating to the site deployed in
• Experience of Microsoft tools such as Excel, PowerPoint etc.
Desirable:
• Experience relating to auditing techniques and management of RCCA (Root Cause Corrective Action)
• Knowledge of APQP (Advance Product Quality Planning) activities
• Practical experience in the execution of new product introduction
