Based at our Luton manufacturing plant you’ll do just that. Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed, Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 400+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, food hub and vending machines.
 
As an Operations Manager you’ll drive operational excellence, with an ‘hands on’ approach for your designated area leading the achievement of PSQDCC targets (People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash and Cost) using the Lean Operating model. Reporting into an Operations Director you’ll directly manage a team of up to 7 Team Leads (indirectly circa 70 Operators and Inspectors). You’ll create ‘a great place to work’, developing and empowering your team, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and delivering a first class service. 

Job Responsibilities

•    Ensuring team members embody our five culture principles
•    Driving a “safety first” mindset ensuring Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards are applied to create a healthy and safe working environment
•    Delivering business financial performance, including delivering revenue and cost commitments to deliver OI on the programs running through your value stream 
•    Contributing to site growth, profitability, cash improvements along with the required investments and resources that support these deliverables. Own capex projects within your remit
•    Working collaboratively with leadership to understand the bigger picture to ensure best performance outcomes for site
•    Contributing and supporting with the implementation of site strategy through the Hoshin Kanri (Strategy Development) process
•    Partnering with support functions to drive global standards enabling area teams to meet their targets
•    Problem solving within your designated remit using the ‘Go to Gemba’ approach
•    Developing first class Team Leaders and specialist skill sets to support succession within the business
•    Ensuring team members fully understand PSQDCC targets to ensure customer and stakeholder commitments are met
•    Driving and facilitating engagement of team members ensuring engagement actions are defined, implemented and followed through
•    Complying with legal and regulatory requirements ensuring team members are aware of relevant policies, their individual responsibilities and accountabilities
 

How You'll Contribute

To help us make a difference you’ll bring the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes
Essentials:
•    Demonstrable experience gained in a similar ‘hands on’ manufacturing operational leadership role – where you have performed a broad range of duties
•    Experience of delivering operational business results delivering on time, to quality and margin targets
•    Experience of analysing manufacturing performance indicators to make data driven decisions to drive results
•    Ability to deploy and motive people and resources to get things done
•    Knowledge of financial KPIs related to manufacturing operations
•    Strategic planning proficiency gained in an operational environment
•    Experience of consistently working to standards defined in the site Business / Quality Management system (B/QMS)
•    Proficiency in identifying talent and developing succession plans
•    The ability to lead, coach and develop direct reports
•    Able to communicate effectively and cross-functionally to build high performing teams
•    A history of positively influencing individuals and teams across functional lines
