Summary

The AI and Digital Research department is a global, multidisciplinary team that puts AI at the centre of drug discovery. The department takes a human-centric approach to drug discovery, utilizing cutting-edge data science, machine learning, and engineering techniques to identify novel targets, biomarkers, and new drugs. By doing so, they aim to accelerate the drug discovery process and unlock a deeper understanding of disease and treatment outcomes.

Through close collaboration with other departments and teams across the organization, the AI and Digital Research department works to bring innovative therapies to patients more quickly and improve the lives of those living with chronic conditions. With a focus on putting AI at the forefront of drug discovery, the department is dedicated to revolutionizing the pharmaceutical industry and bringing life-changing treatments to those who need them most.

We are looking for a Senior Director, Head of Computational Precision Health, to lead a global team of Data Scientists and Informaticians, providing a high level of scientific and strategic leadership to the organization. The Computational Precision Health Team will provide advance analytical analysis using patient level databases (EMR claims, registry) and internal clinical trial data to answer a variety of questions related to drug discovery and early development. You will be responsible for developing and executing the vision and strategy for Computational Precision Health, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring the quality and timeliness of deliverables.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead, build and mentor a global team of Data Scientists and Informaticians, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and collaboration.
  • Define and implement the vision and strategy for Computational Precision Health, aligning with the organization's goals and priorities.
  • Lead and define the data strategy for Research and Early Developments use of patient level cohorts.
  • Serve as a leadership team member for the AI and Digital Research CVP area.
  • Work across Research and Early Development and Development organisation to maximise the use of NN clinical trial data.
  • Provide scientific and strategic guidance to the team and stakeholders on the appropriate use analyse multimodal patient level databases (clinical, wearables images, EMR) and internal clinical trial data towards drug discovery and Research and Early Development, ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
  • Establish and maintain effective partnerships with internal and external collaborators, including academic institutions, data providers, and technology vendors.
  • Communicate and present the results and insights of precision health projects to senior management and external audiences, using clear and compelling visualizations and narratives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the emerging trends and technologies in the field of computational precision health and identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.

Qualifications

  • MSc or equivalent in biostatistics, epidemiology, health informatics, computer science, or related field
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in real world data sources and a sophisticated understanding of study designs and quantitative analytical method
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop a diverse and high-performing team.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex data and analytics into clear and actionable insights for various audiences.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality and timely cross functional projects, with a focus on innovation and impact.
  • Highly collaborative and team-oriented, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Experience working in a global organisation and delivering global solutions.
  • Willingness to test ‘status quo’ thinking and measured risk taking

Stakeholders

In this role your main responsibility will leading your team, but you will be required to work with several internal stakeholders such as AIDR Management, Research and Early Development Therapeutic Teams, Global Translation Teams and the Development Data science Organisation. Externally you will work with Academic Institutions, External Partner Companies and Key Innovators in the Field. 

You will report directly to Mishal Patel, CVP, Head of AI and Digital Research. The successful candidate will be responsible for a global team based in Denmark and the UK but will also be required to further build this team over the next two years.  Experience building teams in the past will be highly beneficial for this opportunity.
