The role

As a Combat Systems Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. As part of a diverse, dedicated, and growing organisation, you’ll play a strategic role leading, motivating, and managing the multi-disciplined Combat Systems Team within the Fleet Engineering Department to meet safety, quality, time, and cost targets.  You will directly contribute to Naval Operations and the provision of safe, available, and capable submarines and ships.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll oversee the Combat Systems engineering, maintenance and operational activities on submarines and ships, ensuring operational readiness and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. You will also:

 

  • Lead the development and implementation of maintenance and engineering strategies for Combat Systems to enhance fleet operational effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of combat systems with other shipboard systems.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs, minimising downtime and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in Combat Systems maintenance and operations, leveraging the latest technological advancements.
  • Ensure the combat systems team adheres to all regulatory, safety, and environmental policies and procedures. Specific responsibilities will include leading on Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality within the wider Combat Systems Team and implementation of the Company policies ensuring that assessments of risks are carried out which lead to safe working attitudes and practices.

 

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at HMNB Clyde, near Helensburgh. 

 

Essential experience of the Combat Systems Manager

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, coach, mentor and motivate multidisciplinary engineering teams on large scale, complex projects within a highly regulatory environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface with and influence key internal and external stakeholders to ensure a positive safety culture and best practices.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of safety management within a high risk, complex environment; ensuring their own and their team’s compliance with company and customer procedures/policies, as well as any applicable statutory industry standards to maintain the highest standard of safety and quality in output.

 

Qualifications for the Combat Systems Manager

  • Minimum of a BEng/BSc in an Engineering discipline or related subject with significant experience. An Engineering HND/HNC may be considered with extensive relevant experience within the field.
  • CEng/IEng with professional engineering body (eg IET, IMechE) or demonstrable evidence of progress to attain this.

 

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
