About the programme 

 

By joining our Electrical Engineering Degree Apprenticeship, you'll be at the forefront of developing innovative technologies that help create a safe and secure world. 

 

During the programme, you'll work on electrical, control and instrumentation projects across different sites. Some of the projects you could be involved in include nuclear new build, decommissioning and defence programmes. This involves tasks like:

 

  • Electrical design from concept to manufacturing
  • Creating drawings, calculations, specifications, schedules and reports
  • Gaining on-site experience in installation and testing
  • Using design tools like AutoCAD, Trimble and Dialux
  • Learning electrical safety and wiring regulations.

 

You'll undertake placements to build well-rounded experience and work towards becoming a competent Electrical Engineer. We’ll also support you in achieving professional registration through the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET).

 

Your education/training

 

You'll study for a Level 6 Nuclear Scientist and Nuclear Engineer Degree Apprenticeship through the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre. This combines university learning with on-the-job training.

 

At the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll have earned a BEng in Nuclear Manufacturing and gained rich work experience in nuclear new build, decommissioning and defence projects.

 

What you’ll need  

 

  • At least 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English and Maths at grade B/6 or higher.
  • 3 strong A Levels in STEM subjects or equivalent Level 3 qualifications.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which roles you are eligible for. For our early careers roles, you must be able to achieve BPSS and many of them require you to be eligible for Security Clearance.
