The Submarine Support Engineering (SSE) are contracted to provide engineering and design services to the MOD, particularly the in-service submarines (ISM) project team who from part of the defence engineering and support organisation.
The role
As an Advanced Planning Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll work within the Advanced Planning Team who are responsible for identifying the work package using a variety of data sources for forthcoming submarine maintenance periods and completing an indicative planning schedule (IPS) for each maintenance period. Your contribution will directly impact the readiness, operational effectiveness, and safety of in-service submarines for the MOD, which is crucial for national defence and security.
Day to day, using your technical knowledge in engineering, you’ll identify maintenance needs, gather data, and create indicative planning schedules that ensure that maintenance periods are well organised and executed efficiently. You will also:
This role offers a balanced work life with 35 hours a week, including a hybrid setup where you’ll be on-site 1 to 2 days weekly. Optionally, a compressed 8 day fortnight allows you to work your hours over fewer days, granting an extra day off. Monthly, you’ll travel to our sites across the UK including: HMNB Clyde and HMNB Devonport. The role is based at the Babcock Technology Centre in Bristol Buisness Park, North Bristol.
