The role
As a Principal Safety Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be able to have an impact on the UK’s future submarines, ensuring they are safe to operate and have safe facilities to be maintained in.
Day to day you’ll be responsible for providing specialist knowledge and support relating to submarine safety and compliance with regulations inputting experience from waterfront in order to ensure facilities and safety cases are suitable for use.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing leadership and direction on safety projects in line with strategy
- Ensuring compliance with statutory legislation and provide technical advice on safety assessment processes and policy
- Providing formal responses to comments raised at the various approval stages
- Serving as a company technical representative in external settings, where required
This role is full time working 36 hours and will be based from either our Devonport Royal Dockyard, Babcock Technology Centre, Barrow-in-Furness or Leicester site with hybrid working from home arrangements.
Essential experience of the Principal Safety Engineer:
- Experience of providing leadership and management within a safety case related role within the nuclear, marine or oil and gas industry
- Experience in safety input to design projects
- Experience of hazard management strategy and author safety assessments (including hazard management strategy, safety reports and equivalents)
- Experience of management projects and risks for work undertaken within their agreed remit
- Strong stakeholder management experience
Qualifications for the Principal Safety Engineer:
- Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline and have either; achieved CEng status with the Engineering Council, or IEng accredited and actively progressing application towards Chartership
Please note that this position is subject to enhanced national security vetting. The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this may include obtaining SC, NNPPI or Developed Vetting (DV) level of security clearances).
