The role
As a First Line Manager Plateshop, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. The Plateshop is a critical enabler in allowing the successful delivery of refits, Deep Maintenance Periods (DMPs), and fleet time support at Devonport and the wider group.
Day to day, the Plateshop manufactures and overhauls fabricated items to Devonport based ship and submarine projects, fleet time vessels and the wider dockyard infrastructure.
You’ll manage and supervise the production activities of the fabrication team comprising of fabricators, welders and apprentices.
The role involves the first line management of a multi skilled team, interfacing with our internal customers within Devonport Royal Dockyard and the production team to ensure efficient and effective delivery of the following:
- Monitor and drive production giving equal focus to safety, quality, cost, welfare, customer, operations and people.
- To manage the repair and overhaul process of customer equipment and survey reports, identifying and ordering additional materials, sub-contract and labour requirements.
- To manage the various repair processes iaw contract requirements, completion of quality documentation, with a focus on product safety.
- Review existing task specific risk assessments and raise new assessments to meet the needs of production.
- Plan, manage and adjust workload to meet operational requirements while setting team clear targets that fit within required by dates.
This role is full time, 35 hours based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the First Line Manager Plateshop:
- Extensive knowledge of fabrication methods and processes and an understanding of production management principles.
- Demonstrates positive leadership capability.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills with careful attention to detail.
- Trouble shooting capability including being able to identify an issue and implement corrective actions.
Qualifications for the First Line Manager Plateshop:
- ONC or equivalent in engineering discipline or equivalent technical experience.
The successful candidate must be able to achieve BPSS security clearance for this role.
