The role
As a Business Development Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary and be involved in a number of key long-term multi-million-pound campaigns and business opportunities with the MoD and Tier 1 industry. As part of the Nuclear sector, the Submarine Support Engineering team leads on a number of exciting campaigns ranging from the next generations of submarine delivery for the UK and overseas and core business development for our in-service submarine business at Devonport, Clyde and Bristol.
Day to day, you’ll act as the main point of contact for the Submarine Support Engineering (SSE) team identifying business and customer opportunities that contribute to the Naval Nuclear and SSE major growth campaigns:
Supporting the Senior Business Development Manager achieve business growth targets (order intake, revenue & profit) and/or execution of key campaigns.
Providing campaign and business development guidance to aide senior managers to define, capture and execute SMART objectives that drives business growth and/or capability enhancement.
Leading the Naval Development Partnership framework as the key Business Development lead.
Establishing and maintaining good relationships with key internal/external customers and developing opportunities.
Capturing customer issues, hot buttons, budgets, key influencers, decision makers and populating our business development systems with this data.
Bid management oversight of key opportunities from prospecting, influencing, engaging, prequalifying, proposing, closing and transitioning
This role is full time - Monday to Thursday 07:30-16:30 with a 13:00 finish on Friday and will be based on site at Babcock Technology Centre, Bristol with hybrid working from home arrangements.
Essential experience of the Business Development Manager:
Ability to build customer relationships, understanding, analysing and influencing their requirements with a view to providing advice and recommendations to address customer needs.
Understanding on how to support strategic objectives by interpreting and influencing both the external and internal environments and by creating positive relationships with stakeholders through the appropriate management of their expectations and agreed objectives.
Ability to recognise and identify business opportunities and innovatively apply knowledge of our products and services to exploit those with the customer identifying the +ve and –ve discriminators for the opportunity.
Able to define, identify, collate, record and appropriately disseminate customer/market/competitor requirements, needs and capabilities in order to enable business development decision making.
Able to strategically manage all communications with the customer. Discuss all aspects of the business capability/offering with knowledge and authority.
The ability to create, implement and review a comprehensive capture plan to the appropriate level of detail consistent with the opportunity life cycle.

Please note that this position is subject to enhanced national security vetting. The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this may include obtaining SC, NNPPI or Developed Vetting (DV) level of security clearances).
