The role
As a Workshop Technician, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. We’re looking for a technician with expertise in metalwork and machine fabrication. The ideal candidate should be proficient in the operation of lathes, milling machines, drills, and various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, and gas welding). This role involves not only the technical aspects of metalworking but also requires effective communication and collaboration with customers throughout the projects.
Day to day, you’ll:
• Work closely with the SWS Workshop Supervisor ensuring the highest engineering principles and procedures are always followed
• Always adhere to the RAF Stations’ and Health and Safety policy and directives
• Provide tuition as required to the Section Apprentice ensuring and a can-do attitude to training and development are always prevalent
• Any other tasks required to ensure a smooth operation in the SWS Section at Northolt
This role is full time and will be based at RAF Northolt and will be based on site.
Experience of the Workshop Technician:
• Proven experience as a Workshop Technician or similar role in operating lathes and milling machines to producing high-quality work
• Proficient in the operation of lathes, milling machines, drills, and various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, and gas welding)
• Ability to work on own initiative independently and as part of a team
Qualifications for the Workshop Technician:
• Level 3 Award in Gas, Mig and Tig Welding with knowledge of the different welding techniques
• Full UK Manual driving licence
• Normal colour perception graded as CP2
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
