The role
As Production Engineer you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary, responsible for providing technical production engineering support to manufacturing operations.
Day to day you’ll deliver solutions and support to Fabrication & Welding processes, covering material handling, material forming /fabrication, and welding ancillary process support. In addition, you will look at process improvement and innovation, and research and develop new technologies for manufacturing and shipbuilding processes.
Determine and develop the necessary process designs and specifications for fabrication, pre-heating, NDE, set-up, of manufacturing processes
Liaise with welding engineering services to analyse, plan, and implement solutions to create / provide efficient fabrication processes.
Liaise with site Facilities on the design and implementation of factory layout projects considering Lean manufacturing tools and techniques.
Develop and implement production performance metrics, to allow analysis for identifying continuous improvement opportunities.
Lead Cross Functional improvement initiatives that will have positive impacts on safety, quality, cost, delivery, and morale.
Facilitating workshops with teams to make significant improvements for the Business based around Value Stream Mapping.
Delivery of Lean principles, tools, and behaviours across the organisation to help educate and influence the workforce to create a better environment for the company and themselves.
Establish, maintain, and publish performance measures as appropriate that give feedback of progress, relating to Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery.
Provide coaching, mentoring, and auditing to ensure effective & consistent implementation of application of successful techniques.
Employ sound data management controls that provide transparency, traceability, auditability, and configuration control.
Perform troubleshooting to determine problems across many trade discipline teams related to job execution.
Carry out Data measurement and analysis to identify conflicts, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
Comply with appropriate legislation including requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Experience of the Production Engineer:
Knowledge and understanding of the production techniques
Demonstrate the ability to identify and develop production engineering requirements and procedures for set-up, proving and implementing efficient production processes.
Skilled in utilising Lean tools and techniques and developing a continuous Improvement culture
Be able to gather, analyse and solve problems using recognised problem-solving techniques
Experience of working in a heavy manufacturing environment with heavy handling requirements
An enthusiasm and understanding of project management and coordination
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
Qualifications of the Production Engineer:
Educated to degree or HNC level in engineering or a related subject or having equivalent practical experience
A solid understanding of manufacturing and production processes as well as the engineering design lifecycle
Practical understanding of continuous improvement tools and principles such as 5S, Standardised Work, Process Mapping, Problem Solving.
