The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a talented and detail-oriented Quality Engineer to join our Engineering team to support and ensure that we achieve the highest level of quality across our business.

As a Quality Engineer, you will play a vital role in maintaining and implementing our quality management systems, processes, and procedures whilst supporting asset operations and our projects to develop/construct new renewable energy sites. The successful candidate will work closely with the Quality Assurance and Improvement Lead and other cross-functional teams, including project management, procurement, and asset management, to provide quality engineering support, drive continuous improvement, implement new procedures, investigate quality incidents, identify corrective actions and support the implementation of effective solutions. Your expertise in quality principles, auditing, statistical analysis, and problem-solving techniques will be instrumental in promoting a culture of quality excellence within the organisation.


Location:  Hybrid working. Can be home based with visits to Durham, Edinburgh or London offices.

You’ll be great at….
 

You will be responsible for a range of key accountabilities that revolve around maintaining and enhancing our quality standards, including:

 

  • Work collaboratively with the Quality Assurance and Improvement lead and other stakeholders to achieve the established CTO quality objectives and targets.
  • Participate in designing and developing new projects and processes, ensuring that quality considerations are integrate from concept through to detailed design.
  • Develop and implement quality control plans, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and other methodologies to ensure compliance with our technical standards, regulatory requirements, and expectations.
  • Conduct quality surveillance inspections at supplier facilities as per the witness and hold points outlined in agreed quality plans / ITPs.
  • Review and ‘markup’ supplier quality plans and ITPs, where key activities require oversight.
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) during the procurement & manufacturing phase of a project.
  • Carry out goods receipt inspections for procured high-value equipment, components and materials.
  • Review and accept verification records as detailed from supplier quality plans / ITPs
  • Identify non-conformances and opportunities for improvement, where quality issues occur that don’t meet our standards, regulatory requirements, and expectations.
  • Conduct audits as per the Quality Management System audit schedule.
  • Perform root cause analysis and lead problem-solving efforts to address quality issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Utilize tools such as 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone diagrams to drive effective corrective actions.
  • Support functional change initiatives to enhance the overall quality and operational efficiency.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging quality practices to proactively recommend improvements and ensure compliance with evolving standards.
  • Proficient in conducting both internal and external supplier audits, with demonstrated knowledge and experience. 

 

What do you need to be great at this role?
 

You will hold a Diploma in Quality Leadership, CQI Certificate or Advanced degrees or certifications in Quality Engineering in addition to:

 

  • A good understanding of core quality principles.
  • Be a member of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI).
  • Proven experience working as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Good knowledge of project management principles such as; Prince2, AMAP and PMI.
  • In-depth knowledge of quality management systems, methodologies, and tools, such as ISO 9001, FMEA, SPC, and statistical analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, analyse, and interpret complex data sets.
  • Proficiency in quality improvement methodologies, such as Muda (waste reduction), Value Stream Mapping and experience leading improvement projects.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards relevant to the energy sector.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with a systematic and data-driven approach.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
