The Opportunity

 

An excellent opportunity to join a world leading Engineering Company where you will work alongside qualified Technicians at our Tram Care Centre in Nottingham.

 

Nottingham Tram care centre operates in Nottingham and has been a tram maintenance depot for over 20 years.  The depot carries out various maintenance and overhaul activities.  Maintenance activities range from daily safety inspections, routine exams, corrective maintenance and reliability modifications.  Overhaul activities range from complete train planned overhaul, minor component and major component overhaul.  The site houses three shed roads and an underfloor wheel lathe all to be used to support the operational fleet for Nottingham.

 

Your day to day activities will involve learning about and supporting operational activities around maintaining trams including the original Incentro fleet of fifteen trams alongside the new Citadis trams, of which there are twenty-two in the fleet.  You will be working as part of a multifunctional team responsible for diagnosing and repairing faults along with undertaking daily service exams.

 

Our Apprenticeships combine academic college studies with real life work-based experience across our organisation. You will have the opportunity to build and gather evidence of your competence whilst working towards a formal qualification.

 

You will undertake a planned rotation within appropriate departments in order to gain the skills, and competence to complete the Standard requirements. In addition, you will attend education both part- time and on block release to achieve the Knowledge, Behaviours and, Competencies as required by the apprenticeship.

 

Attendance outside of standard work patterns should be expected.  You will also undertake internal training not covered by the Standard.

 

In line with the Rail Engineering Apprenticeship Standard, you will learn about all elements of Rail Engineering and the industry and eventually specialise in Transport and Rolling Stock Engineering.

 

Key Duties

 

  • Attend training provider courses full time or day release as requested; Leading to completion of a level 3 Apprenticeship StandardOperate at an appropriate level carrying out designated tasks within the team assigned.
  • Participate in company initiatives, in particular to be engaged in Continuous Improvement activity targeted at all aspects of Alstom performance.
  • Conduct oneself at all times in a manner that reflects positively on Alstom.
  • To comply with Alstom Procedures and the Code of Ethics
  • Provide technical support to the depot teams in the provision of fault-finding expertise and assistance with train repair activities.
  • Positioning of fault data into shared drive facility.
  • Carry out fault finding and investigate intermittent faults on vehicles either on depot or in service. 
  • Carry out Testing & Re-Commissioning activities on vehicles and trains in accordance with pre-written test and commissioning procedures.
  • Assistance in component change outs, and failure reporting for central systems support and reliability growth teams.
  • Assist with skills development within depots and train care points.
  • Provide on train fault diagnosis/rectification for units in service.
  • Investigate technical problems as instructed by central systems support team.
  • Partake in gathering required data downloads on critical performance systems at all TCC’s.
  • Arrange and undertake test runs to assist in fault finding and resolution of faults, in particular the closeout of repeat failures.
  • Functionally test train borne systems with minimal supervision using a variety of techniques and methods, including the use of computer-based diagnostics systems.
  • Review and rectify test specifications and documentation for functional tests.
  • Investigate technical problems as instructed by central systems support team.
  • Assist with the validation of documentation issued in support of maintenance and repair activities, special checks, modifications and experiments.
  • Assist in the validation of Maintenance Schedule amendments and other technical instructions.
  • Assists with the validation of locally produced technical instructions.
  • Provide technical support in connection with special checks and experiments.
  • Liaise with the systems support engineers and specialist engineers as necessary, gathering technical information needed to enable technical problems with trains, procedures, materials or component problems to be resolved.
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with the Train care Centre quality and safety procedures.
  • Assist in the testing and repair of equipment identified as faulty and removed from trains.
  • Assist the Warranty Engineer in the execution of his responsibilities.
  • Ensures work is performed in a safe and effective manner in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), Electricity at Work Regulations (1989), Railway Group Standards, and relevant ALSTOM Procedures.
  • Where necessary drive the company’s vehicle to attend the Northern Lines outstations

Qualifications

 

you must have (or be predicted to have):

 

  • Minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grade 5-9.
  • This should include Math’s, English and a Science
