Your future role

 

The role comprises leading and co-ordinating a team of Fleet Maintenance Engineers at East Ham Depot to deliver activities and projects to provide a safe, reliable, and cost-efficient fleet of trains, which meets the Train Operator’s (c2c) requirements and complies with their Safety Case obligations. The role is approximately split 50:50 between engineering and team leadership activities and if successful you will report directly into the Electrostar Platform Fleet Maintenance Engineering Manager.

 

We’ll look to you for:

  • As an integral part of the Project Core Team, understand the required deliverables for the Fleet Maintenance Engineering team to support the Project’s business objectives.
  • Use effective project planning and governance structure to organise and co-ordinate the team to deliver its key business objectives on a day-to-day basis, feeding into core team governance activities as required.
  • Primary interface with the customers for project level engineering activities and governance, including supporting periodic technical review meetings.
  • Act as a technical authority for the team to review/approve change and a point for escalation for the team to resolve roadblocks/conflict with (internal and external) customers and suppliers.
  • Lead the development and delivery of engineering change to improve fleet/system reliability performance, reduce cost of maintenance & deliver customer variation solutions.
  • Support the identification and implementation of safe, cost effective, containments and countermeasures to identified product safety issues.
  • Lead the planning and delivery readiness (inc. BoM’s, work instructions & configuration) for light and heavy maintenance activities, as defined by the Vehicle Maintenance Schedule.
  • Ensure that the specified fleet maintenance regime is certificated, adhered to, and complies with all relevant legislation, and associated limitations are effectively managed.
  • Support depot Operations teams in resolving arising fleet issues – this includes the requirement to undertake out of hours duties if required.
  • Support with the introduction of the Class 720/6 Aventra fleet.
  • Cover the Electrostar Platform Fleet Maintenance Engineering Manager in their absence.

  • Ideally educated to Degree level in an engineering/technical discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it.
  • More than 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Strong organisational, resource management and team development skills.
  • Strong engineering/technical knowledge of traction and rolling stock systems and maintenance policies/practices.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong business and commercial acumen.
  • Experience in problem solving techniques.
  • Experience in fleet maintenance or asset management environment.
  • Experience in delivering rail vehicle engineering change, including risk assessments and approvals.
  • Experience of Product Introduction.
  • Experience of Depot Operations.
  • Computer literate (MS Office, Teams, Project, Maximo, SAP etc).
  • Knowledge of rail industry legislation, standards and safety case obligations.
