As a member of the Finance Business Partnering team the role will support the Senior Business Controller & Finance Manager in all areas of financial governance and reporting. The role will have regular interactions with Operational & Commercial teams as well as being a key link with the Shared Service Financial team. Key responsibilities will include maintaining project controls, supporting forecasting & budgeting and month-end duties. The role will help promote the use of SAP and BI tools rather than the use of excel manipulation to ensure efficient and effective financial activities. The role is accountable for key reporting and analytical activities. The role provides key information to drive compliance and decision support across the sector.
This role can be based at either our Camberley or London offices, but we offer a hybrid working model so it will suit a mix of home and office work. When required, there will be some requirements to visit our Majors project offices (London, Milton Keynes, Somerset). A company car/allowance will be provided.
Your Mission:
Identify opportunities for continuous development, improvement of financial systems and processes to realize efficiencies and standardization across the finance function.
Project start up, closure and project administration – working closely with Project Commercial leads to ensure appropriate documentation and controls are in place to allow accurate project set-up, execution and close (particularly for any JV’s).
Support the development of quick, accurate and accessible management information for all key stakeholders with a range of daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
Cost control and governance – to ensure that all projects costs are managed and controlled in line with BAM’s internal control policies and procedures. This includes regular review, reporting and understanding key project variances to allow.
Manage the area CTC (overhead) ensuring accurate costings as well as being able to explain key variances and recommending actions when appropriate.
Support the ongoing forecasting and budgeting process. This will include attendance of project reviews, supporting micro level forecasting.
Provide key support to the Order to Cash process working closely with both Operations and Commercial in maximizing cash. Specifically managing the PBA process ensuring BAM’s cash position is captured accurately.
Understanding and reporting key project working capital requirements focusing on Work In progress, Customer debt and Cash flow. Supporting project teams to improve cashflow forecasting.
Month End – Supporting the finance and commercial team to achieve month-end deadlines demonstrating accurate accounting records. liaison with project teams and senior management.
Build strong relationships with all key stakeholders including operations and commercial (Commercial managers & QS) as well as having a key role in the continued education of non-finance stakeholders eg Project Managers & Project Controllers.
Proactively manage audit requests by providing information in a timely manner and resolving client and external audit queries, acting as the Major Projects key liaison with the respective audit teams
Provide both general and ad-hoc support to the finance teams.
Supporting the ongoing investment in system utilization and modernization
Desirable experience:
Degree level education
PQQ and/or with a genuine desire to become CIMA or ACCA qualified (which the company will support)
Interest in Construction & Civil Engineering
For this position, we are looking for the following competences:
Interest and experience of using BI tools and systems to drive analytical review (complemented with strong excel skills and an ability to work with large quantities of data)
Strong communicator, able to elicit information from stakeholders at all levels.
MS Office
Knowledge of SAP highly desired
Analytical mind with the ability to translate detailed and complex information into concise and coherent management information.
Must be diligent and use own initiative to resolve issues.
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships within the finance team and across the business.
