Water and Waste business unit (WAW) is a true end-to-end business as part of Wärtsilä Portfolio Businesses. WAW is a global leader in designing and supplying innovative wet and dry waste equipment and freshwater generation solutions for passenger vessels & conventional waste management and ballast water treatment equipment for all marine segments. We are now looking for a Project Manager, reporting to Program Manager – Project Management, that will play a key role in delivering project management practices throughout the project lifecycle. The preferred location is Poole, Dorset, UK and will have the opportunity to travel internationally with this role.

 

 

In this vital role, your work will focus on:

 

The application of Wärtsilä project management practices throughout the project lifecycle. Ensuring project delivery in accordance with agreed metrics for quality, schedule, cost and scope. Contract compliance and project profitability.

 

Your work will focus on these responsibilities:

 

  • Plan, manage and co-ordinate assigned projects, from handover from Sales through to successful completion, including on time completion, meeting the required quality objectives and optimisation of financial control aspects.
  • Deliver projects in accordance with Wärtsilä Water Systems procedures, in particular the delivery to Customer Gate Model.
  • Accurately interpret the key issues of the project from the client and ensure these are effectively communicated to all members of the project team and relevant departments.
  • Provide information for tenders if required.
  • Take ownership and draw up project plans, to include setting the projects’ goals, scope, limitations, and assumptions.
  • Lead and manage project teams (to include sub-contractors) using effective communications and motivational skills.
  • Maintain good working relationships with internal departments, and external clients (maximising sales opportunities where appropriate).
  • Ensure all work, including changes in project parameters and scope of supply, are carried out to appropriate standards and follow established company systems and procedures.
  • Plan, review, monitor, (adjusting where necessary), resources and tasks to meet client objectives within agreed timescales.
  • Ensure all project activities are contractually and commercially sound, fall within budget limits and are delivered on time.
  • Project costs to be planned monitored and reviewed on an on-going basis, to assist in the achievement the agreed budget.
  • Formulate and present regular progress/variance reports to management/project stakeholders as required. Final report and evaluation of projects to be circulated internally, in a timely manner.
  • Support installation and commissioning of projects at client’s site, ensuring satisfactory final product handover to the client.
  • Establish and maintain risk assessments (considering mitigation), throughout project duration.
  • Ensure staff and sub-contractors employ safe working practices in line with statutory legislation, company health and safety policy and other local health and safety rules.
  • Ensure that all quality objectives of the project are met and that the requirements of the Quality Plan are fully achieved. 

 

To be successful, we expect you to have:


•    A Degree in Business Bachelor’s with a concentration in Project Management or equivalent
•    Demonstrable experience within relevant project management roles
•    Highly attentive to details to include establishing milestones, dependencies and risk mitigation plans
•    Proactive approach towards problem resolution, focused on positive outcomes and rapid project to go-live deployments.
•    Commercially aware, with a proven ability to be strategic whilst assured of operational delivery within set perimeters and budgets
•    Technically skilled, with a record of identifying opportunities to create value for the business and the end customer
•    Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, and a track record in building strong customer relationships that enhance the customer experience
•    Customer focused and process development attitude, with evident experiences of understanding different needs and formulating actions that meet those needs
•    Proven ability to inspire, lead and empower team members to create a high performing team environment


You will be at an advantage if you have:

 

•    Experience within the marine industry is advantageous
•    An internationally recognised PMI qualification such as PMP, Prince 2 or APM PMQ / PPQ
