JOB DESCRIPTION:As a Sensing Engineer in our Hivemind Edge organization, you will be enabling our software and hardware platform products to perceive their surroundings and perform their mission. Your work will directly enable our autonomy software and hardware platforms to both improve performance of current capabilities as well as unlock new perception and autonomous capabilities at the edge. You will work cross-functionally to implement sensing-related improvements to existing platforms and software, as well as drive the future of sensing for Shield AI products. Sensing is the first stage in our autonomous vehicle Perception software stack, so as a Sensing Engineer, you will have direct impact on the success of our products and the missions we are solving for our customers.
What You'll Do:
Write generic sensor management and processing software that improves our core autonomy software product’s ability to be extensible
Write sensor command and control algorithms that respond to commands from our higher-level autonomy stack
Write sensor output data filtering algorithms
Characterize sensor parameters using real lab and flight data and implement sensor models in software for simulation
Design sensor calibration procedures and drive deployment to the platform production line
Perform sensor selection trade studies and make recommendations to technical programs
Test and evaluate candidate sensors by designing data collection experiments, collecting data, and producing analysis reports
Work cross-functionally with Embedded teams on sensor data pipelines to the autonomy software and other Hivemind Edge autonomy software teams who consume sensor data
Required Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 7 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or 4 years with a PhD; or equivalent work experience.
Strong C++, Git, Linux development skills
Subject matter expertise with one or many of the following sensors: IMU, GNSS, magnetometer, EO/IR/thermal cameras, RADAR/RF
Strong mathematical background
Experience with state estimation and sensor fusion algorithms involving some subset of aforementioned sensors
Experience designing and executing sensor data collects for sensor evaluation or calibration
Experience with sensor selection for edge autonomy systems
Demonstrated track record of working hard, being a trustworthy teammate, holding yourself and others to high standards, and being kind to others
B.Sc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
Ability to obtain a security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in relevant engineering field
Practical experience designing and implementing C++ software architecture design patterns
User space Linux experience
Modern software development experience: continuous integration/continuous development, test-driven-development, etc.
Experience fielding robotics hardware/software in demonstration settings
Broad robotics knowledge across perception, planning, and action disciplines
