POSITION SUMMARY:

 

This role encompasses a dual responsibility for both people and systems management. In terms of people management, the incumbent will oversee and coordinate a team of utility mechanics who are responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing various systems such as the high-pressure steam system, ammonia refrigeration, reverse osmosis water, compressed air, cooling towers, HVAC, wastewater, and other building systems. This also includes the hiring of personnel and the development and management of a competency matrix.

 

Additionally, the role involves overseeing and coordinating wastewater operators who are responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing waste processing equipment, as well as managing buildings and grounds. In terms of systems management, the incumbent will be responsible for conducting evaluations to determine necessary installation or repair services, managing budgets, ensuring operational efficiencies through preventive maintenance measures, and ensuring compliance with Nestlé and legal requirements using Nestle SAP. This will require close collaboration with the factory and maintenance planner/schedulers to execute work that directly impacts the functioning of the factory and production.

 

This position also entails direct supervision of utility mechanics and wastewater operators, as well as overseeing third-party contractors who provide services related to utilities, buildings, and grounds.

 

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES:

 

  • Provides leadership, development, and support to team members under the guidance of the Nestle Management and Leadership Principles.  
  • Communicate with entire internal & external customer base and troubleshoot facility, system, and personnel problems. Keep the plant and its utilities in the best operating condition possible while securing personal and food safety. Develop and participate in production efficiency improvements and actively drive change.   
  • Create an environment that empowers employees to drive change and improve systems.  Plan and supervise daily activities involving utilities maintenance personnel. This includes preventative and corrective maintenance, shutdown planning, daily log reviews, and project management. Also includes reviewing attendance records, writing and revising SOPs, ensuring proper training is provided, etc.
  • Ensure utility, wastewater and building systems are compliant to Nestle Standards including Boiler house Safety and RMP/PSM Coordination.
  • Provide oversight for the safety and security of our building.
  • Actively participate in safety and loss control initiatives including emergency response team.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Safety and Environmental:

  • Follow factory safety & environmental objectives & targets 
  • Follow the plant safety rules. Report incidents & unsafe conditions immediately 
  • Maintain compliance with regulations and refer to the Safety & Environmental Management System(s) on all related procedures and programs. 
  • Understand the environmental aspects of the position and take action to reduce these environmental impacts by conserving paper, electricity, water, etc. Will also recycle all appropriate materials (paper, plastic, food, etc.)

Quality:

  • Follow factory food safety, quality objectives & targets 
  • Follow Nestle Good Manufacturing Practices, report food safety and quality issues immediately.
  • Maintain compliance with regulations and refer to Nestle Quality Management System on all related procedures and programs. 
  • Understand the food safety and quality aspects of the position as indicated on QMS, OJT's and SOP's that apply. 
  • Throughout all of these responsibilities, maintains a focus on continuous improvement

 

Experience and Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related engineering field. Will consider 5+ years’ experience, with proven leadership abilities, in lieu of a degree. 
  • CIRO / RETA / Boiler Operator certifications  
  • 5+ years with specific experience in utilities and facilities systems
  • 5+ years’ experience supervising others in a maintenance utilities and environmental management environment. Experience in a food or pharmaceutical plant.
